MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50 fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

During summer, MSCR offers the Summer Recreation and Enrichment Centers (SREC). MMSD students enrolled in morning Summer School, transition to SREC mid-day to join MSCR staff for a variety of recreation and enrichment activities (outdoor, science, art, music, drama, etc.) and field trips.

SREC SnapshotSREC sites provide programming for up to 180 students in grades 4k-4. Each classroom has 15-18 students supported by two or more Program Leaders. Program Leaders spend the majority of the time in the classroom providing engaging activities and building relationships with their studentsEach site has a leadership team onsite to help and offer guidance at all times

Job Description & Duties:

• Plan, prepare and lead fun and inclusive recreation and enrichment activities.
• Enjoy the outdoors while supervising recess and field trips.
• Create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.
• Work as a team with other program staff to carry out responsibilities.
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
• Help students work through conflict.
• Interact with parents as needed.

Program Dates: 

All staff Training Week: June 10-14 - In person, on site 10:30am-4:30pm
Program Dates & Times: Tuesday, June 17-July 26 Summer School/SREC Program, No program/staff: June 19, July 4 & 5 (unpaid holiday closure). SREC program hours: 12-4pm Monday thru Friday.

Work Location:

WEST/SOUTH: Chávez, Lincoln, Olson, Southside, Thoreau.

EAST/NORTH: Elvehjem, Hawthorne, Lake View.

Hours/week: 25 hours per week.

Work hours: 

Staff Hours: Monday thru Friday 11:30 am-4:30pm
