Missouri State Highway Patrol is Hiring a Trooper Near Missouri, MO

The primary duties of a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper are to promote safety and enforce traffic laws for the motoring public. A trooper provides assistance to motorists, is responsible for investigating highway traffic crashes, and other roadway emergencies. Other responsibilities include assisting local law enforcement officers upon request, investigating crimes, and enforcing criminal laws. A trooper must work under all climatic conditions, is frequently required to drive at high speeds, subject to call at any time, and work schedules that change regularly.

After two to three years of service, opportunities would be available in the areas of Aircraft, DDCC (Criminal Investigation / Narcotics), K9, Motorcycle, SWAT, etc. as openings occur.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must be at least 21 years of age upon graduation from the Academy.

Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Missouri when recruit training begins.

Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and be 21 years of age upon graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy.

Be of good character, with no felony convictions or crime involving moral turpitude, no pending indictments, or certain misdemeanor offenses including any involving aggressive or violent behavior (i.e., domestic violence, criminal assault, etc.), disregard for the safety of others, or the misuse of deadly weapons.

Be free of objectionable tattoos/brands. No tattoos/brands are permitted on the head, neck, hands, wrists, or any other part of the body that would be visible during movements in the performance of their duties while wearing any official uniform. If visible, be willing to wear the Class A uniform which will consist of the long-sleeve shirt, trousers, tie, straw hat, and the appropriate leather and insignia to cover any tattoos/brands on any part of the body that would be visible during movements in the performance of their duties while wearing any official uniform.

Be willing to live anywhere in the State of Missouri.

Possess a valid Missouri Driver License at the time of appointment.

Successfully complete all components of the Trooper Selection Process, outlined below.

The starting annual salary for the Traditional Trooper Recruit and Accelerated Trooper Recruit is $57,984 and $58,944, respectively. Troopers are granted annual salary increases until reaching the current maximum salary of $88,464. Troopers receive between 15 to 21 vacation days per year, depending upon years of service, and they can accumulate a maximum of 42 vacation days. Troopers also receive 15 sick days and 13 paid holidays per year. There is no maximum accumulation of sick leave days, which can be used to increase service credit when the trooper retires.

Upon graduating from the Patrol’s Academy, troopers are eligible to earn 46 credit hours through Mineral Area College in Park Hills, MO, or 30 credit hours through the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO, or 57 credit hours through Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, toward a degree. While attending the Academy, recruits may also be eligible to earn an associate of applied science degree at Mineral Area College by completing an additional 16 general education credit hours through online courses with Western Governors University.
