Missouri State Highway Patrol is Hiring a Commercial Vehicle Officer Near Missouri, MO

The primary duties of a Missouri State Highway Patrol Commercial Vehicle Officer (CVO) are to promote safety and enforce Federal Regulations and State laws pertaining to commercial motor vehicles and drivers. A CVO conducts various levels of North American Standard inspections and post-crash analysis on commercial motor vehicles to ensure compliance with the state and federal laws and regulations. Other responsibilities include assisting the motoring public. A CVO must work under all climatic conditions, and work schedules change regularly.

The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure that includes written examination and a oral interview. If given a conditional offer of employment, the applicant must successfully complete a polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation/review, medical examination (to include vision and hearing), psychological examination with interview, and drug screening test.

CVO Trainees receive approximately eighteen weeks of intensive academic training at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City. Self-defense, cultural diversity, firearms, arrest procedures, and state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to commercial motor vehicles are some of the topics covered during the training period. Following Academy graduation, each officer must serve a twelve-week period under the guidance of a veteran Field Training Officer and a one-year training period.

Starting salary for a CVO is $51,576 annually. Commercial Vehicle Officers receive annual step increases and opportunities for overtime after their training has been completed. Medical insurance, paid life insurance, and paid retirement, are among the available fringe benefits. Optional family health, vision, dental, and life insurance are available at the employee’s expense. Officers receive at least 15 vacation days and 13 paid holidays per year.
