Position Function :
Engages and advocates for military-connected students in support of their overall success including their onboarding, persistence, and graduation.
Through an established network of campus-wide staff and faculty and using local and campus-wide databases, reports, and systems, the Student Experience Coordinator monitors indicators of student success and failure and then takes appropriate action towards improvement or risk-mitigation.
This position is primarily responsible for intaking military-connected students into the Center’s benefit and needs program and includes understanding and counseling / advising students and their parents or custodians regarding benefits, resources, and services for MSU military-connected students.
This includes knowledge and understanding of military-connected benefits and resources including local, State and Federal assistance programs (MSU scholarships, National Guard programs, Department of Veteran Affairs GI Bill Education benefits, ROTC programs, etc.
It also includes campus-wide programs that provide services in support of student success needs (financial, physical, mental, academic, etc.
Directly liaisons with the University’s recruiting efforts and is the Center’s primary coordinator for all recruiting and awareness events including Orientation, Fall and Spring Preview Days, Academic Insight Days and off-campus recruiting and engagement events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Designated as a Department of Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official (SCO).
Manages and maintains military-student connected case management reports and databases.
Participates in the development and implementation of departmental strategic goals and objectives.
Works with and coordinates with the Center staff in the fulfilment of all duties and responsibilities and department goals.
Supervised directed by the Executive Director for Veteran and Military Affairs.
Coordinates with and primary liaison to all departments involved in on and off-campus recruiting events and programs.. Coordinates, assists, and supports Center for America’s Veterans Program Coordinator in support of all military-connected programs, services, activities, and events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree (any area)
US military service (Any US Military Branch and rank (currently serving or Dishonorably Discharged Veteran)
Preferred Qualifications :
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Business Administration, Public Administration.
Military service in leadership positions at the pay grade of E5 / 03 or higher.
6 years of US military service.
4. Advanced knowledge of all military branches educational and tuition assistance rules and regulations.
Advanced knowledge of Department of Veterans Affairs Education benefits.
Knowledge of MSU’s Banner and Budget system
Experience working in a Higher Education setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
1. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement.
2. Ability to interpret and apply military education funding policies and procedures.
3. Ability to guide military-connected students through different military branch funding mechanisms.
4. Advanced office skills; including organizing and managing databases, reports, and systems.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
6. Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
7. Ability to establish quick rapport with military-connected students and parents
8. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
9. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
