Montessori Co-Guide - Mississippi Microschool

This is an approximately 30 hour salaried position starting: June 15, 2024 or sooner
Required in person hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9AM-3PM. Prep time may be be completed at any time or location.
About Mississippi Microschool
Opening Summer 2024 and running full year thereafter, Mississippi Microschool offers a unique secular education option for students in grades K-6th. The primary mission of the school is to create a small, close-knit community where students can learn with freedom and respect. Mississippi Microschool is especially committed to meeting the needs of the neurodiverse population through understanding, flexibility, and a low demand environment. Students will thrive in a small mixed age class with a low student to teacher ratio. The curriculum will be Montessori based with modifications to include non-Montessori materials, more teacher attention and pivoting the focus from independence to interdependence.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Mississippi Microschool is looking for two passionate and committed co-guides to shape and lead the new school. The ideal candidate will have led a Montessori classroom and is interested in incorporating non-Montessori approaches to better meet individual needs. The applicant will have a strong desire to foster and encourage children’s love of learning utilizing a mix of Montessori and other progressive teaching methods. They will develop an individual relationship with each student and help them get the individual attention they need to be successful. They will collaborate with their co-guide as well as direct an assistant and any specialists or volunteers.
General Responsibilities
● Creating an environment where students feel accepted and worthy.
● Promoting kindness and acceptance of all human variations.
● Developing and evaluating the school’s education plan in collaboration with parents.
● Managing the elementary classroom.
● Maintaining the classroom materials.
● Providing understanding, flexibility, and adaptations for individual needs.
● Communicating and collaborating with families to meet individual student needs.
● Help families with documentation required for meeting MN homeschooling requirements.
Required Qualifications
● Montessori Certification, Elementary Preferred
● At least one academic year working in an accredited Montessori classroom.
● Is kind and patient.
● Guides students to meet their individual educational needs.
● Ability to create a safe, caring, and fun classroom environment for diverse students.
● Filled with positive energy, sees possibilities and is an optimist.
● Enjoys bringing in ideas from various teaching methodologies.
● Observant and flexible, willing to change directions to improve outcomes.
● Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with both students and parents.
● Experience with or knowledge of highly sensitive people and/or neurodiversity.
Desired Qualifications
● Education or experience in Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, Democratic or other alternative school environments.
● Education or experience in a neurodiversity affirming therapeutic environment.
● Familiarity with Ross Greene’s approach to collaborative parenting.
● Excited to share personal passions or hobbies with the students, anything from singing or telling jokes to homesteading or board games.
● Experience teaching through methodologies such as project-based, Socratic discussion and student led passion projects.

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
