ACCOUNTANT
The Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center (MIWRC) is a non-profit social and mental health
services organization committed to traditional ways of being and support of American Indian women
and their families.
Founded in 1984, MIWRC provides a broad range of programs designed to educate and empower Native
women and their families, and to inform and assist those who work providing services to the
community.
MIWRC is located in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis, which has the third largest urban
American Indian population in the United States.
Programs are developed to reflect the needs of our families, and are tailored to address issues that
significantly affect their well-being, such as family services, affordable housing, chemical dependency,
mental health care, cultural resilience and healing, and other family and community issues.
SALARY: $63,000/annually, plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY: The Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center (MIWRC) is seeking a competent,
creative, fast-paced, highly-motivated, and compassionate financial professional to be one of two
accountants for the organization.
Main responsibilities, depending on qualifications, will include:

• Completing our bi-weekly payroll, working knowledge of both the Finance Policy & Procedure

Manual and the Personnel Policies Handbook, assist the A/R, A/P and PR processes, expense
allocations, journal entries, financial reporting, and assisting with financial statements and other
required finance functions.

• Working with the agency leadership to maintain our accounts receivable as their primary

responsibility and potentially expand federal, state, county, foundation, corporation, and tribal
grant funding, fulfill grant reporting requirements, and help diversify funding strategies for long-
range development planning.

• Other duties as assigned

• NOTE: In this position, you will be confronted with crisis situations affecting the Native

American community. These may be people that are unhoused or live in extreme poverty,
are dealing with sexual violence and/or domestic violence, may be sex trafficked, current

sex workers, or in active addiction or receiving treatment. This may also include the staff

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hold a finance or accounting degree (BS or BA preferred), or equivalent experience, and

have at least 3 years’ experience working in an accounting environment

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and nonprofit GAAP

experience preferred.

• Must be experienced with Microsoft Office products, including Excel.

• Experience with payroll and accounting software required, preferably Quickbooks and ADP

• Must be analytical, well-organized and have a strong attention to details.

• Enjoys having a variety of responsibilities and challenges, and able to work with multiple

tasks and a high volume of transactions and programs.

• Professional attitude, be dependable and have strong communication skills.

• Able to follow directions and established procedures, while being aware of improvement

opportunities.

• Experienced in working with website data entry and/or uploading, preferred.

• Supervisory/training experience is desired.

• Must be able to work with others to achieve agency and/or departmental goals.

• Must be willing to submit to DHS Criminal Background Study

“Nice to Have” Qualifications:

• Experience working with American Indian women and families

• Three to five years’ experience working in mainly grant-funded non-profits or other related area,

especially in the American Indian Community.
Demonstrated ability to:

• Maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.

• Ability to exemplify professional conduct and ethical standards.

• Provide effective communication: interpersonal and listening skills with clients and staff.

• Work in a cooperative team relationship with MIWRC agency staff, and other agencies to

coordinate client services and programming.

• Perform at a highly multi-tasking position and maintain professionalism under stressful

situations.
REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Accountant reports directly to the Finance
Director and has no supervisory responsibilities.
