Minnesota Air Inc is Hiring a Distribution Center Manager Near Oakdale, MN

Description

SUMMARY

The Distribution Center Manager is responsible for managing distribution operations at the NE location. The Distribution Center Manager works with leadership, warehouse, customer service, IT, and other departments to optimize processes and establish procedures while complying to safety regulations and best practices. The Distribution Center Manager has direct reports that consist of any of the following positions: Warehouse Associates, Customer Service, Drivers, or other similarly assigned roles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • LMA – Leadership, Management, Accountability
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department. 
  • Acts as coach and mentor to all employees at the distribution center.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the distribution center.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance conversations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and direction in solving problems while improving overall performance, monitoring performance for areas and ways to improve quality and performance.
  • Collaborates with all departments and distribution partners to optimize processes and establish procedures that support inventory best practices that allow for optimized material flow, efficient handling, and accurate tracking of equipment.
  • Plans layout of stockroom, warehouse, and other storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight, and related factors of items stored.
  • Advises employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
  • Studies records and recommends remedial actions for reported non-usable, slow moving, and excess stock.
  • Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures, and to determine adequacy of stock levels.
  • Maintains safe and healthy workplace including reporting and investigating workplace accidents, ensuring employees are adequately trained to perform the work safely, ensure that employees perform the work in a safe manner, ensure material handling equipment are maintained and safe to operate.
  • Schedules and trains driver on various routes, encouraging the most efficient routes.
  • Schedules maintenance and repairs on vehicles.
  • Develops methods to improve service quality using metrics.
  • Collects and analyzes individual performance analytics (phone time, number of calls, orders placed, etc.).
  • Ensures proper phone coverage and responsiveness to customer requests.
  • Leads the identification and resolution of service problems and customer complaints at the NE location in coordination with Inside Sales and Parts Associates. Identifies root causes and implements changes to eliminate future occurrences.
  • Ensures operational resources, including equipment and personnel are properly allocated in relation to customer delivery expectations.
  • Manages technology resources and systems to maximize revenue and best use of resources through distribution operations.
  • Acts as liaison between NE location to accounts receivable and customer service to resolve issues. Analyzes trends in customer complaints, works with management team to reduce complaints related to shipping operations.
  • Participates in facility planning initiatives and implementation of facility improvements.
  • Ensures a regularly scheduled maintenance program is in place for equipment and machinery. Manages the contingency plan for equipment and continuously plans for future needs in equipment.
  • Responsible for compliance with the Safety Handbook as it applies to operations and operational personnel.
  • Establishes and monitors health and safety practices, trains and monitors employees in safety measures, ensures compliance with all federal, state and internal safety mandates.
  • Investigates safety violations and accidents. In collaboration with HR and the Director of Operations, coordinates all insurance and OSHA interaction regarding safety compliance and inspections.
  • Plans Participates in continuous learning & development and training initiatives through department specific trainings, MN Air University, HR training programs, tech-support led courses, Webinars, or other job-related trainings to foster a continuous learning and development mindset

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Basic level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Experience managing in an ERP environment.
  • Knowledge of distribution and materials management best practices.
  • Strong team leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to organize and prioritize multiple resources and ensure on-time completion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and have ability to appropriately prioritize workload based upon organization or departmental needs, both individual and team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; clearly and efficiently communicate.
  • Ability to provide oversight to multiple projects
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and building strategic relations with coworkers, vendors and/or customers.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions, suggest conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to maintain and protect company proprietary information

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
  • Three years of related experience and/or training in the HVAC industry 
  • Equivalent combination of the above education and experience
  • Experience managing in a high-volume, HVAC (or similar industry) distribution environment (preferred)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regular exposure to dusty and fragrant conditions and varying temperature levels.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate – fleet trucks, forklifts, and conversations pursuant to working goals
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 10% travel, commonly to headquarters in Bloomington, MN
