Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board: Community Connections and Violence Prevention is looking for qualified staff to be a member of our team. Position available: StreeReach Attendant. This position is eligible for sick and safe leave in accordance with the Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance.
Position Summary:
Engage with youth and adults to promote safe environments through positive behavior, intervene when youth and adults are displaying negative, threatening, or other inappropriate behaviors, mediate conflict, and build relationships with youth in the Recreation Center and in the community.
Compensation:
Pay rate $18.56
· Hours: Ability and willingness to work a flexible evening schedule Monday- Sunday.
Working between 20-30 hours a week
Job Duties:
· Provide focused safety strategies, outreach support, intervention, and de-escalation to the community, staff in the parks, community events, and recreation centers.
· Response to high energy, complex community events, occurrences, and prolonged issues within MPRB parks.
· Work in collaboration with the team to response to encampment requests and provide resources as needed
· Develop mentoring relationships with youth to support and encourage them to build on the strengths and capabilities needed to be positively involved in their communities while preparing to be successful adults.
· Provide behavior management for youth participating in programs and activities, including while at sports events, at pools, in recreation centers, outdoors, and at other places where youth are spending their out-of-school time.
· Enforce Park Board policies, procedures, and work/safety rules in a fair and equitable manner
· Establish and maintain an effective, respectful, and productive work environment and encourage professional development for all employees
Qualifications:
· Must be at least 20 years of age
· One year of experience working directly with youth, teens, and families in community settings
· One year of experience working with homelessness populations
· Must pass a background check and have driver’s license
· Communicate respectfully and effectively with a diverse community using courtesy, tact, and good judgement.
· Work independently with general supervision.
· Ability to outside in all types of weather conditions.
· Ability to perform assigned work independently and responsibly, as well as part of a team.
· Ability to maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
· Ability to stand for long periods of time and complete physical tasks (lift, carry, pull, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
· Passion for working with inner city youth
· Violence prevention skills and or training
· Crisis Management skills and or training
· Other youth preventive skills or training
· Community focused
