SELECTION PROCESS:
Applicants must submit an online application at www.minneapolisparks.org/jobs by 4:30pm on May 24, 2024. Applicants must submit a copy of their college diploma and/or transcript by 4:30pm on October 1, 2024 or the application will be considered incomplete and will be rejected from the process. Applicants must also submit proof of Minnesota P.O.S.T. license or proof of passing the P.O.S.T. exam required by October 1, 2024 or applicant will be disqualified. This required documentation can be attached to the online application or provided to MPRB HR by fax 612-314-8703 or by email hrforms@minneapolisparks.org. Incomplete or late applications will be rejected.
The examination/selection process will consist of a rating of training and experience based on application materials and supplemental questions (15%), education (5%), and oral examination (80%). Minimum passing score for each testing component and as a final overall score is 70.00. For more information on each testing component, please see below. Human Resources reserves the right to limit the number of people invited to testing events. References, including verification of employment and work performance, may be considered. Eligible list will expire in three (3) months.
Rating of training and experience based on application materials and supplemental
questions: 15%
Because the rating of training and experience is based on application materials and answers to supplemental questions, applicants are encouraged to be complete and thorough in their answers. Applicants may choose to attach a cover letter or resume to their application; however, it is not a substitute for the completed application and supplemental questions.
Education: 5%
An Associate's Degree is a minimum requirement for a Park Police Officer. Any applicant with an Associate's Degree who also meets the other minimum requirements will be eligible for the testing process. A Bachelor's Degree is listed in the posting as "preferred" meaning applicants will receive 5.00 points maximum for a Bachelor's Degree. Applicants must attach proof of degree to this application or send a copy to Human Resources by fax, (612) 314-8703, or email, hrforms@minneapolisparks.org, by 4:30pm on October 1, 2024 or the application will be considered incomplete and may be disqualified.
Oral Examination (panel interview): 80%
The oral exams will be held via Zoom-dates will be announced at least 7 days prior to oral exams. There is no make-up day for the oral exams.
Background Check, Finalist Interview, and Medical Examinations:
Selected candidates will then be contacted by the Minneapolis Park Police to schedule a background investigation and/or finalist interview. Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation to meet department standards regarding acceptable employment history, honesty, credit, driving, and conviction records. A candidate who receives a conditional offer of employment must also be deemed medically and psychologically fit by the MPRB's health providers. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol screen and work performance test, and psychological examination.
A candidate receiving a final job offer will receive an invitation to attend the Minneapolis Recruit Academy tentatively scheduled for October 2024.
