Assistant Mechanical Crew Chief

Facilities Department

Full time (37.5 hours per week), non-exempt, union position

Starting hourly rate: $38.60 - $40.54 depending on qualifications

Shift: Monday - Friday plus 1 week 24 hour call every 5 weeks

The Job

To assist in the preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance measures at Mia for building heating, humidity, cooling and temperature control systems and the maintenance and operation of central boiler and chiller plants.

In this role, you will....

1. Assist in the development of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. Carry out tasks outlined in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) program. Work with and train Mechanical Maintenance Specialists on the general maintenance and operation of ALL building systems, including the preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment.

2. Operate and maintain boiler and chiller plants and related sub systems. Repair as required, fans, motors, compressors, control systems and other MEP components and apparatuses. Maintain museum quality air, temperature, and humidity requirements. Troubleshoots HVAC power limited controls.

3. Work with computers. Operate the building automation system (BAS). Work with Google platforms, building automation systems, and CMMS.

4. Work closely with the Physical Plant Manager and Mechanical Crew Chief to ensure all Mia mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) equipment is kept safe and up to code.

5. Maintain and repair restaurant equipment including dishwashers, coolers, freezers, exhaust hood, and all other related equipment.

6. Assist other maintenance personnel and perform other related duties or responsibilities as required or assigned, including training or serving on committees.

Specific Requirements

Education:

* H.S. Diploma or GED

* Field related vocational education in HVACR or equivalent in job experience.

* Universal Refrigerant Transition Certificate (CFC) preferred.

Skills/Experience:

* Preferred valid Minnesota Class 1-C Boiler Engineer license or ability to get within 3 years.

* 3 years' working knowledge of reciprocating and centrifugal chillers.

* 3 years' experience operating commercial, industrial, campus, and/or museum MEP systems.

* Must have the proven skills necessary to repair walk in and reach in coolers, freezers, and refrigerators.

* Must have proven skill to operate and maintain Rooftop Units, Air Handler Units, and Make-Up Air Handler Units.

* Must have proven working knowledge of building and energy management systems, electrical and pneumatic temperature/humidity control equipment.

* Adept with low voltage controls and wiring.

* Strong skillset for using digitized organization tools such as CMMS and building automation systems.

* Must be willing to work 24/7 emergency call on a rotational basis.

* Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documents

* Must have a valid driver's license.

* Bryan Steam Boilers - 30 hp

* Bryan Hot Water Boilers - 86 hp

* York Centrifugal Chillers - 500 ton and 350 ton

* York Reciprocating Chiller - 80 ton

* McQuay and Haakon Air Handlers

* PC Windows 10

* KMC Energy Management System (BAS)

* Ziegler Diesel Emergency Generator

* Voss VAV Drives

* Various RTU, AHU's located throughout Mia's facility

Physical Demands:

* Bend, kneel, climb ladders and stairs, traverse roofs

* Manual dexterity related to tools and equipment

* 80% indoor/20% outdoor, year-round, -20F to 110F

* Ability to stand for extended periods of time, 70% standing/30% sitting

* Comfortable with heights and confined spaces

* Able to lift 25 lbs frequently, 50 lbs often, and 100 lbs occasionally

* Required to wear safety shoes
