Minds in Motion Initiative is Hiring a Speech-Language Pathologist Near Salem, OR

  • Minds in Motion Initiative (MIMI) is an innovative non-profit organization based in Salem, Oregon specializing in therapeutic services for people of all ages with acquired brain injuries, neurological and neuromuscular diseases, and brain-based differences. Our mission is to help those we serve gain maximum independence and live the lives they choose. Our philosophy is, “nothing for the person without the person.” 
  • MIMI has established five initiatives working in harmony to transform person-centered care delivery — Therapeutic Services, Living Services, Agency, Access, and Advocacy. 
  • The Therapeutic Services initiative is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team striving to fulfill the mission of MIMI by providing coordinated, person-centered, and innovative services. It incorporates a holistic model of care where the team partners with clients focusing on supporting their autonomy, adapting their strengths, supporting their network, and fostering a culture of acceptance in our communities. 
  • Services will be provided in clients’ homes, in the community, and at our accessible clinic via individual and group-based programs. Our interventions are unique, incorporating creative arts and recreation activities (arts/crafts, music, dance, yoga, sports/fitness, outdoor adventures, etc.). 
  • Therapy team includes occupational, physical, and speech-language therapists as well as care and resource coordinators. 
  • MIMI believes in finding the right people for the team who support the overall Mission of the organization. We hire people, not resumes.
Job Description: 
  • Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Part- or full-time applicants welcome 
  • New graduate applicants welcome with embedded mentoring support 
  • Therapy provided 1:1 or in group format within the clinic, community, vocational sites, and/or clients’ homes. 
  • May be required to work outside of the traditional work schedule 
  • Start date January 2023 (flexible) 
Qualifications: 
  • Master’s Degree in speech-language pathology (required) 
  • Oregon State license (required)
  • ASHA certification (required) 
  • BLS from the AHA within 90 days of hire (required) 
  • Promotes and offers creative and innovative approaches and solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, problem solving, decision making, and organizational skills for working with the team and clients. 
  • Knowledge of regulations, practice standards, and evidenced-based practices for speech-language pathology.
  • Experience working with diverse client types/diagnoses
  • Experience working with pediatric and adult populations. 
  • Knowledge and skills in performing culturally-sensitive and developmentally-appropriate evaluation and treatment services. 
  • Possess reliable transportation 
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend and twist as needed; exposed to sitting on floor, bending/squatting, walking, driving, etc. 
  • Lifting of 25 lbs or more is common and requires proper lifting techniques 
Responsibilities: 
  • Empower clients to participate more fully in activities of daily living when performing these activities is compromised by a health condition or neurological difference. 
  • Provides proper evaluation, treatment, education/training, and partnership in order to help clients improve their daily functioning, increase independence and autonomy, and to support improved overall quality of life. 
  • Provides high-quality, person-centered care by including client/family goals and working “with” and “for” clients. 
  • Communicates and collaborates closely with other team members including but not limited to occupational therapists, physical therapists, other speech-language pathologists, client/community resource coordinators, care managers, medical providers, education professionals, vocational rehab professionals, community partners, and client family members. 
  • Manages schedule and client caseload to maximize client access to services while providing efficient yet high-quality services. 
  • Completes required documentation accurately and efficiently while adhering to legal/licensure requirements, insurance regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Conducts thorough evaluations employing a combination of formal and descriptive measures as determined based on an individual client’s presenting needs, skills, and goals. 
  • Develops functional treatment plans and tracks clients’ goal progress to report this information to stakeholders (e.g., clients, families, referring providers, insurance). 
  • Assesses and makes recommendations for adaptive equipment and/or home modifications as well as processes for home and community environment. 
  • Identifies and communicates need for referrals to other providers/services when appropriate. 
  • Maintains client confidentiality and privacy by following HIPAA regulations and ethical standards.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. 
  • Protects clients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. 
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops/trainings, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal/professional networks, and/or participating in professional societies.

  • Feedback by constituents including consumers, families, and other agencies. 
  • Ability to relate to and work with all consumers effectively. 
  • Degree of confidence displayed in the execution of responsibilities. 
  • Positive and professional relationships with all internal and external contacts.
