MIN1019 McLeod is Hiring a BUILDING MAINTENANCE ENGINEER I Near Glencoe, MN

Salary Range for this position is $20.56-30.84 depending on experience.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Duties listed are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Position Duties

  • Responds to building structure issues including but not limited to roofs, foundations, windows, doors, and exterior facades to evaluate scope of the issue and advises supervisor on appropriate actions.
  • Check and maintain HVAC systems, including daily boiler checks. Contact repair services when necessary. Change air filters at appropriate intervals. Adjust temperatures as needed via computer.
  • Performs minor plumbing repairs, including but not limited to unclogging toilets, sinks, cleaning faucet aerators, filter changes in drinking fountains, and maintenance of toilet flush valves.
  • Performs minor repair of interior finishes including but not limited to walls, paint, flooring, ceilings, casework, door and hardware adjustments, and changing light bulbs.
  • Maintain storage and maintenance areas. Keep maintenance and storage areas neat, orderly and stocked with towels, soap, toilet paper, etc. Pick up and store supplies.
  • Assemble office equipment, light fixtures, etc., along with the general maintenance of same.
  • Grounds keeping: Keep yard and grounds free of debris. Remove snow and/or ice from areas as necessary to maintain safety. Perform some grass cutting and trimming as needed.
  • Oversee light maintenance for Glencoe motor pool. Schedule service and repairs. Wash and clean fleet cars.
  • Assist personnel by obtaining supplies, moving furniture, setting up and taking down furniture for meetings and other miscellaneous tasks as requested.
  • General cleaning. Empty wastebaskets, keep carpets clean, clean lobbies, entrances, entrance windows and floor mats, sweep, dust, and vacuum. Perform general sanitation in the break rooms, sanitize bathrooms and do general cleaning of meeting rooms after each use. Move equipment and furniture as necessary for cleaning purposes.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Prepare paper recycling materials for pick up.
  • Transport office supplies to various County locations.
  • Performing seasonal cleaning duties as required.
  • Perform job related duties as assigned or apparent.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of custodial practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to operate lawn mowing and snow removal equipment.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform light repairs on work equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable software applications.
  • Working knowledge of boilers.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of building maintenance experience including experience with cleaning equipment and lawn mowing/snow removal equipment;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 

Required Training

  • Boiler training.

Required Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License.
  • Valid Special Class Engineer Boiler’s License or the ability to obtain it within 10 months of hire.

Preferred Experience

  • Three years of building maintenance experience including experience with cleaning equipment and lawn mowing/snow removal equipment.
  • Boiler experience.

Relationships

  • Regular interaction with county and the general public.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No direct supervision of employees.

Working Conditions

  • Work is mainly performed in an office environment with some outside work in all seasons.
  • Work around meetings and employees that either work late or work at the Law Enforcement Center which is open 24 hours a day.
  • Exposure to irritating chemicals in cleaning solutions is possible.
  • Exposure to noise from lawn mowers, snow blowers and cleaning machines.
  • Available to cover for an absent employee or assist with a maintenance issue on short notice is possible.
  • Work some weekend and holiday hours to perform building checks.
  • Requires driving to county facilities.

Physical Requirements Of This Position

  • Ability to hear and speak effectively to communicate by phone or in person
  • Ability to communicate effectively with County staff, and general.
  • Ability to stand for extended period of time.
  • Ability to read screens and documents.
  • Ability to handle tools and equipment used to clean and maintain facilities.
  • Ability to drive in various light and weather conditions.
  • Ability to type and use a computer or mobile device.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, kneel, stand, grasp, balance, walk, stoop, reach, push and pull while cleaning and maintaining facilities and moving furniture.
  • Ability to lift and carry files and material weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

  • All positions at McLeod County are subject to a background check. This may include, but is not limited to, the following checks: criminal history, credit, driver’s license, pre-employment physical assessment, pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and psychological testing.
  • Must have access to all county facilities 24 hours per day.
