The Choir Teacher is passionately dedicated to inspiring students to explore their musical talents through choral performance. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of vocal techniques, music theory, and a strong commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. The Choir Teacher will be responsible for creating a positive and nurturing learning environment where students can develop their vocal skills, musical understanding, and appreciation for choral music. Through the Choir Teacher’s guidance, students will learn proper vocal techniques, music theory, sight-singing, and performance etiquette. The Choir Teacher will collaborate with school administrators, fellow music teachers, and parents to create meaningful musical experiences for students and promote the importance of music education within the school community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Collaborate and lead as part of the greater school team and community.
  • Exemplify a relentless commitment and passion for improving conditions for a successful future for all students.
  • Define and set a collaborative vision that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism.

Curriculum Development & Instruction

  • Design engaging and comprehensive curriculum for choir classes, aligned with educational standards and tailored to students' skill levels and interests.
  • Provide instruction in vocal techniques, including breath control, pitch accuracy, diction, and expression, to help students develop their singing abilities.
  • Teach fundamental music theory concepts such as rhythm, harmony, sight-reading, and ear training to enhance students' understanding of music.
  • Select a diverse repertoire of choral music spanning various genres, cultures, and historical periods to broaden students' musical knowledge and appreciation.

Rehearsal and Performance Preparation

  • Conduct choir rehearsals with enthusiasm and precision, guiding students in refining their vocal skills, ensemble blend, dynamics, and interpretation of musical scores.
  • Prepare students for public performances, competitions, and events by organizing rehearsals, coordinating logistics, and ensuring readiness in vocal performance and stage presence.

Individualized Instruction

  • Provide individualized attention and feedback to students to address their unique strengths, weaknesses, and learning needs, fostering their personal growth and musical development.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with other music educators, school staff, and community stakeholders to integrate choir activities into the broader music program and promote interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Engage with parents, guardians, and the broader community to foster support for the choir program, promote student participation in performances, and showcase students' musical achievements.

Professional Development

  • Stay updated on advancements in music education, pedagogical approaches, and choral repertoire by attending workshops, conferences, and professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Knowledge of general learning and child development concepts, theories and fundamentals.
  • Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with mission and vision of the school.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Licensed to teach in the state of WI.
  • Prior experience as a Teacher (highly recommended).
  • Capacity to supervise group work.
  • Outstanding planning, conflict resolution techniques, problem-solving skills.
  • Assess student projects with their skill level and style in mind.

Desired

  • Excellent organization, time management, and follow up skills, demonstrating ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A strong sense of urgency, prioritizing student experience and outcomes.
  • Strong sense of team and ability to work with and on a team to invest team members and drive outcomes.
  • Charter school experience in an urban setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of mobility through a large campus, and at times prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.

Other Requirements

  • The job may require occasional evening or weekend hours for family engagement events and meetings.
