MILWAUKEE ART MUSEUM is Hiring an Assistant Educator of Youth and Family Programs Near Milwaukee, WI

Job: Part-time, Temporary, Non-Exempt, Non-union, Grant-funded
Hours: Vary according to event schedule. Evening and weekend work required. Approx. 25-40 hours per week (May 15 – Sept 3)
Supervisor:  Director of Youth & Family Programs
Pay Rate: $19.63/hr. 

 General Purpose: Develop projects for, coordinate set-up, and implement Kohl’s Art Studio events that engage a multi-generational youth and family audience in creativity-engaging experiences that register deeply, and build lasting, positive impressions that connect with the Museum’s special exhibitions and collection. Function as lead for teaching team at Kohl’s Art Studio events.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Create a welcoming environment for youth and family audiences to make art together. Develop and teach hands-on art activities. 
  • Create and maintain schedule for Kohl’s Art Studio events staff. Communicate event details to event location and MAM staff in advance. 
  • Drive Kohl’s Art Studio van to events. Record staff attendance, lead set up/break down of event including setup of tents, tables, easels, and other materials as required. Communicate projects and details to working staff, communicate any issues or changes to designated MAM point of contact/s, record visitor attendance, write summaries and take photos of event. 
  • Order, prepare, maintain, and organize supplies and van for Kohl’s Art Studio events. Organize and inventory supply room. Drive van to get gas and to auto shop for maintenance. 
  • Work to increase awareness of Museum programs while out in the community. 
  • Collect surveys. 
  • Take part in youth and family training and meetings as assigned. 
  • Implement and/or assist with other projects or programs as assigned, at the Museum, in the community, and online. 
Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements: Strong background in studio arts and/or art education, and early childhood education. Experience teaching studio programs to children and family groups. Need to be highly creative, personable, and organized with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of art history and developing ongoing understanding of the Museum’s Collection and special exhibitions required. Degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Art History, or related field with strong art making experience required. Demonstrated customer service skill also required. 

License or Certification Requirements: Driver’s license required.

Ability to work with a wide variety of people to achieve the goals of the Museum.
