General Information:

Job title: Electrician

Schedules Available: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; 7:00am-3:30pm

Weekend rotation: Every 9th Weekend

Holiday rotation: Holiday rotation

Position Summary:

The Electrician position installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring that work is in accordance with relevant codes. Electrician may install or service street lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
  • Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electronic devices and systems.
  • Receives wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions from supervisor covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installation, and electrical inspection work to be performed.
  • Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment. Starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Services electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains communication cables, power distribution cables, then splicing pieces as required.
  • Fabricates parts if not commercially available, using machine and hand tools common to the trade.
  • Determines need for, analyzes, and makes necessary running adjustments, repairs, and overhauls.
  • Advises and cautions operators and mechanics about potential electrical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Other duties, as requested.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required. Successful completion of 4-year or 5-year apprenticeship program and/or graduation from a technical school or college, highly preferred.
  • Wisconsin state licensure required for Electrician, preferred.
  • Valid state drivers license and MBMC insurable.
  • 2 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Work takes place in varying environmental conditions, including inclement outdoor conditions.
  • May require work outside in cold or hot weather, or in buildings without functioning HVAC.
  • May require work in cramped positions or in high places.
  • Exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., power tools).
  • Exposed to vibrations, mechanical oils, airborne particles, risk of shock, and potentially hazardous bodily fluids or chemical agents.
