Midwest America Federal Credit Union is Hiring a Consumer Underwriter I Near Fort Wayne, IN

Consumer Underwriter Job Summary: Incumbent is responsible for underwriting all consumer loan requests and to provide administrative support to the branches and dealerships. Also responsible for the processing of all consumer mortgage products.

Consumer Underwriter Qualifications:
An Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field and/or a minimum of two (2) years of prior financial services experience with an emphasis on consumer or mortgage related duties. Reviewing and analyzing consumer credit reports, income documents, collateral valuations, along with knowledge of lending related Federal regulations is preferred. Must possess NMLS license. Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable three (3) year driving record preferred.

Essential Elements of the Consumer Underwriter:
  • Maintain a positive and professional image of self and the Credit Union.
  • Provide accurate and timely service to our members, dealer associates and Credit Union employees by following these services level standards:
    • Review and return loan decisions in the order of priority and times stated from receipt of application and in compliance with the Credit Union’s procedures.
    • Process consumer mortgage requests in a timely manner and within department goals.
    • Develop and maintain relations with assigned dealer groups, requiring a minimum of three contacts annually.
    • Scanning and copying of documentation and reports as required.
  • Contribute to overall profitability of the Credit Union by following lending policies and procedures, adhering to current pricing models, properly valuating different types of collateral, and underwriting to current business models while maintaining delinquency and charge off ratios are required.
  • Adhere to Federal Regulations and Credit Union polices regarding ECOA, HMDA, Fair Lending, Truth In Lending, RESPA and HOEPA.
  • Maintain confidentially and adhere to all security measures and policies and procedures of the Credit Union.
Additional Job Requirements:
  • Actively participate in seminars/training and workshops as required.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.
Job Skills and Work Relations:
Incumbent must demonstrate excellent phone etiquette skills, written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously. General knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and web applications. Incumbent must be detail-oriented, able to work in a team environment and able to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality and display tact and professionalism in working closely with co-workers, other departments and members.
Incumbent reports directly to the AVP of Consumer Lending
Physical Effort and Working Conditions:
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment involving sitting, standing, keyboarding, close vision, speaking clearly, hearing sounds and communication. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds. Incumbent may work with a desktop computer, printer, copier, calculator, scanner, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment as needed. Incumbent may occasionally travel to surrounding area branches.
