Front of House Shift Lead Job Description

Job Summary:

The Front of House Shift Lead at Midtown Vegan Deli and Market is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the front-of-house area, ensuring exceptional customer service and efficient workflow. This role involves supervising and supporting front-of-house staff, managing customer inquiries and orders, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for patrons. The Front of House Shift Lead will play a crucial role in upholding the deli's standards of excellence and contributing to a positive dining experience for our customers.

Responsibilities:

1. Customer Service Leadership:

- Provide leadership and guidance to front-of-house staff to ensure exceptional customer service.

- Assist customers with inquiries, special requests, and dietary accommodations in a friendly and professional manner.

- Resolve customer complaints or concerns promptly and effectively.

2. Shift Management:

- Oversee the daily operations of the front-of-house area, including opening and closing procedures.

- Assign tasks and responsibilities to front-of-house staff to ensure smooth workflow and optimal service levels.

- Monitor employee performance and provide feedback and coaching as needed.

3. Order Management:

- Take customer orders accurately and efficiently, utilizing knowledge of the menu and product offerings.

- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of orders.

- Handle cash transactions and reconcile cash registers at the end of each shift.

4. Upselling and Promotion:

- Encourage upselling and promotion of menu items, specials, and retail products to maximize sales.

- Stay informed about current promotions, events, and menu changes to effectively communicate with customers.

5. Cleaning and Organization:

- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the front-of-house area, including dining tables, counters, and display cases.

- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and sanitation standards.

- Assist with cleaning tasks and opening/closing duties as needed.

6. Training and Development:

- Train new front-of-house staff on customer service standards, menu knowledge, and operational procedures.

- Provide ongoing coaching and support to front-of-house team members to enhance performance and job satisfaction.

7. Inventory and Stock Management:

- Monitor inventory levels of retail products and merchandise, and place orders or communicate replenishment needs to upper management.

- Assist with receiving and stocking deliveries as needed.

Qualifications:

- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role in a restaurant, deli, or retail setting is preferred.

- Strong customer service skills with a passion for creating exceptional dining experiences.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

- Basic math skills and proficiency in handling cash transactions.

- Knowledge of vegan cuisine and dietary preferences is a plus.

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
