Your Opportunity
As an Engineering Project Specialist/ Water Resources Engineer in Training, you will participate in the development and preparation of engineering data in support of various water resources and environmental engineering projects. You will work under guidance and supervision of senior engineers, and as a team member of project managers, water resource engineers, GIS analysts and environmental scientists.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic surface water modeling with 1D and 2D HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP, USGS tools, and others in support of FEMA flood insurance studies and other water resources projects.
  • Support Stantec's Flood Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) projects or similar projects such as regulatory and non-regulatory product development.
  • Support watershed-wide Flood Risk MAP projects, Conditional Letters of Map Revisions (CLOMRs), Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs), and No-Rise Analyses.
  • Work on multiple projects and be responsible for projects of average complexity/size.
  • Work under supervision of Engineer-of-Record (EOR).
  • Engage in the development of Flood Insurance Study reports, Profiles, Floodway Data Tables, workmaps, and databases.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and cost estimating.
  • Collaborate with other team members while working on projects; complete tasks and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
  • Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Perform peer review of coworker's work.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of FEMA floodplain studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (1D & 2D modeling), and storm water management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Possesses excellent time management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with project managers, senior engineers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Possesses team leadership skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills are a plus.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree.
  • E.I.T. (Engineer-In-Training) certification or capability to obtain E.I.T.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree.
  • Co-op/Internship experience.
  • Knowledge of FEMA's Risk MAP program and standards.
  • FEMA Risk MAP program experience.
  • Experience related to storm water management, Low Impact Development (LID) or ecosystem restoration design and watershed assessments.
  • Proficient with engineering software programs, which including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM/XPSWMM (or other modeling software).
  • Proficient with ArcGIS.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D. #INDES
