Mid-Atlantic Waste Systems is Hiring an Assistant Controller Near Clinton, MD
As the Assistant Controller, you will:
- Oversee the month-end close process, maintain balance sheet schedules, and perform allocation entries
- Manage and lead the AR and AP teams remotely while maintaining a culture that expects high performance, and enables employees to succeed and grow
- Identify training opportunities for team members, assist, and back up the team as needed
- Maintain and process bi-weekly payroll, including processing monthly sales commissions, incentive calculations, and file maintenance
- Daily journal entries as needed to record operating and payroll expenses
- Manage the timely filing and renewal of all necessary business licenses and permits
- Prepare and accurately complete sales tax returns for all relevant jurisdictions
- Provide leading support for audits and year-end close

- Knowledge of accounting systems
- Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to think creatively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to simultaneously manage several projects, and prioritize effectively
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, a CPA is preferred
- 3 years of general ledger experience
- Knowledge of budgeting and cost control principles
- General knowledge of US tax regulations
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
- Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis
