Description

University Overview:

MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) is a private university with a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, MNU seeks to educate students to serve with purpose within the educational context of the liberal arts, and a Wesleyan-holiness theological perspective. Job Summary:

This position is responsible for developing and communicating value-based and cost-based information to deciding students, families, and the campus community. Additionally, the counselor is required to anticipate project and admissions needs, discern work priorities, meet deadlines with little supervision, be willing to work regular evenings and weekends, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external customers.

Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Effectively move assigned deciding students through the admissions funnel by providing highly relational and timely customer service using all possible communication channels.
  • Help assigned students connect and develop multiple relationships within the MNU community: current students, faculty, coaches, directors, staff, and alumni.
  • Provide onboarding support for accepted students as they navigate financial aid awarding, campus visits, collection of official transcripts, course registration, finalization, all orientation programs, and move in events.
  • Stay current in all departmental workflows and processes that connect with the student onboarding experience and advocate for the best possible student experience.
  • Achieve assigned conversion goals as developed by the AVP using historic trends and current strategic initiatives in the areas of deposits, registered students, and census data.
  • May perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Team player with a collaborative style and excellent communication skills (written and verbal) that enables positive interaction with prospective students, their parents and a wide range of campus constituents.
  • Detail oriented and goal motivated with the ability to successfully accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Adept at assessing opportunities quickly/successfully and able to overcome objections through the presentation of institutional value propositions.
  • Ability and willingness to use a variety of methods and technologies for communications.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external customers demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and successfully pass driving record check and annually thereafter.
  • Willingness to work flexible and extended schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to quickly learn the MNU recruitment and admissions philosophy, including core elements of the financial aid process.
  • The ability to lift 50 lbs in preparation and set up of equipment at locations.

Qualifications


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Previous admissions experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of higher education and the admissions process is desirable.
