Job Title: Adjunct – School of General Education - Communication
Division/Department: General Education/Communication
Reports to: Chair for the School of General Education
Location: Main Campus (Oklahoma City, OK)
Position Type: Part-time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours worked Per Week: Course time plus 1.5 office hours per week
POSITION SUMMARY:
Mid-America University seeks a part-time faculty member with in-person and online teaching experience in undergraduate courses in the area of public speaking. The applicant must possess a strong Christian background.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses within the School of General Education as assigned by the Chair
- Provide quality instruction by following the department’s course syllabus, grading assignments, tracking attendance
- Submitting course grades and performing other administrative duties as required.
- Respond and effectively communicate with the Chair on a regular basis
- Available to teach courses in the timeslots needed to support the goals of the University
- Perform other such duties as may be deemed appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess excellent communication, both oral and written and organizational skills necessary for the position
- Must possess excellent communication skills to work effectively with individuals and groups
- Must be flexible in scheduling
- Demonstrate effective teaching skills
- MACU seeks those who value teaching students and wish to contribute fully to the life and mission of the University.
- Commitment to the mission of the University. Prefer teaching experience in survey courses in American History and or World History
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
M.A. or Ph.D. in the area of Communication preferred, but must have at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in
COMM courses.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Experience with interactive computer programs (e.g. Zoom)
- Experience with either D2L, Canvas, or Blackboard- MACU utilizes Canvas
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to instruct in a classroom environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Main campus working conditions may take place, so the successful candidate must have
reliable transportation.
