We are seeking a highly skilled Viral Safety Scientist to join our dynamic team based in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will join a technical, multisite team focused on developing viral safety products and services. As the key technical leader, the individual will be responsible for leading the production of viral stocks and design of controls required for NGS-based detection as well as traditional culture-based assays. Additional responsibilities include supporting customer communications and technical training of Sales professionals.

Some key duties in this role include:

• Prepare, characterize and document cell and viral master/working banks.
• Develop purification methods yielding high-titer, high purity viral stocks.
• Develop and validate methods to produce inactivated viral stocks.
• Develop multiple testing technologies including ddPCR, viral particle counting and genome sequencing to characterize the viral stocks.
• Engage with key accounts and opinion leaders on study designs to demonstrate performance of products.
• Maintain current knowledge of regulations and industry practices used to remove, inactivate, or detect adventitious agents in bioprocess manufacturing.
• Serve as a technical resource and support company communications and training that support the product line.

Here is what we are looking for:

Requirements:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of bioprocessing and viral safety, with a focus on cell line maintenance and contamination detection and removal.
• Direct experience using culture-based and rapid methods for detecting viral, mycoplasma, or nucleic acid contamination.
• Strong background in virology and experience in propagating, concentrating and purification of viruses.
• PhD in Virology, Molecular Biology, or a related field is preferred.
• Proven expertise in the identification and elimination of adventitious agents in cell cultures.
• Knowledge of industry guidelines and regulations related to viral safety in biologics manufacturing.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• The ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
