Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is Hiring a Director of Operations Near Saint Louis, MO

As a member of the senior management team and under the general supervision of the Executive Director, responsible for the management and coordination of all activities associated with the operation of the various collection systems, treatment facilities and related activities of the District.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and management for operation and maintenance of the District's infrastructure including: combined, sanitary and stormwater collection systems, pump stations, and treatment plants; 
  • Ensure that efficiency is emphasized and maintained throughout the department such that operations and maintenance costs are optimized; 
  • Assure that effective asset management methods are utilized for all District infrastructure assets; 
  • Lead the department to assure that excellent customer service is maintained in the various divisions; 
  • Assure that compliance with all environmental regulations associated with District operations are achieved; 
  • Assure that each division's work practices are performed utilizing appropriate work safety and risk management procedures; 
  • Lead labor relations with District unions;
  • Coordinate operations activities with other Departments; 
  • Establish and monitor department policies and procedures; 
  • Prepare, monitor and manage the department budget to assure efficient use of District funds; 
  • Establish and maintain communication with employees, various stakeholders and their related organizations; 
  • Assure that the District's operations and maintenance records are properly maintained; 
  • Participates in strategic planning for the entire District, offering an operations perspective to the process; 

Additional Responsibilities

Perform related work as required or delegated by Executive Director.
