Job Functions:
The Development Manager is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donor relationships in support of the mission, vision, and goals of Metropolitan Ministries. The Manager serves as a member of the Advancement Team, with specific duties focused on strategies for cultivation of targeted donor relationships with a focus on retention, and growing community engagement of new donors. The manager provides support to the Advancement Team with special event sponsorships and administrative tasks. The Development Manager is a leader in the organization and will work cross functionally with the Donor Engagement Teams to successfully meet or exceed the annual resource goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred, and 1-2 years of sales, nonprofit, fundraising or related experience.
Skill Requirements:
Self-motivated, ability to multi-task and manage many projects simultaneously, and shift priorities as needed. Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meets deadlines. Must be able to work independently and also be a team player. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to work, occasional evenings and early mornings, and weekends for team events.
Knowledgeable with computers with a working knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other database tracking software, Web-based research tools, Microsoft Office. Ability to effectively use computer equipment: monitor, keyboard, mouse and other computer-related peripherals.
Requires heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families and individuals. Able to be gracious to all and able to relate well to a wide spectrum of people in the community including the Board of Directors, donors, clients, and the general public. Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. Must demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity. Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time. Ability to walk and climb stairs and to lift 20 lbs. Physically able to work in outdoor/temporary shelter environment considering the local climate and its normal fluctuations. Physical, emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.
Other:
Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must pass required background pre-employment screening.
