Metropolitan Community College is Hiring a Library Assistant Near Omaha, NE

Position Number 860 Branch Academic Affairs Division Academic Success Department Library Job Description
This position assists students, faculty, staff, and other patrons in using College library print and online resources to locate appropriate information and materials. Teaches patrons how to use various online computer databases and how to search the Internet and to use software programs such as MS Office. Assists the Library Supervisor in daily operation of the library.
ESSENTIALPOSITIONFUNCTIONS:
1. Instructs patrons in using online library catalogs and databases to locate desired information.
2. Answers reference questions and provides other assistance to patrons.
3. Checks material in and out, updates patron records.
4. Handles intra-campus and interlibrary loan requests.
5. Maintains various library records and statistics.
6. Responsible for library operations in absence of Supervisor.
7. Intermittent guidance of work-study students.
8. Assists in maintaining the environment of the library.
9. Operates and performs basic cleaning and maintenance of audiovisual equipment.
10. Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
11. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSANDABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of library practices.
2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Window software and skill in operating a computer.
3. Skill in interpersonal communications. Skill in the use of English spelling and grammar.
4. Skill in organization, time management and prioritization.
5. Ability to use active listening skills to answer questions and problem solve and converse on the telephone and in person with employees, vendors and students.
6. Ability to write and maintain accurate records.
7. Ability to play close attention to detail.
8. Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
9. Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations.
10. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
11. Ability to communicate with members of a diverse culture in a courteous, professional manner.
12. Ability to express oneself clearly in written and oral communications.
13. Knowledge of audiovisual equipment.
14. Ability to move up to 20 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently

Required Qualification
High School/GED plus two years related work-related experience.
Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish/bi-lingual is preferred.Physical Demands
