METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER is Hiring a Practice Support Specialist- Palliative Care Near Cleveland, OH

The MetroHealth System, Cuyahoga County’s public health system, and its staff of nearly 8,000 provides care at MetroHealth’s four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites throughout Cuyahoga County. The health system is home to Cuyahoga County’s most experienced Level I Adult Trauma Center, verified since 1992, and Ohio’s only adult and pediatric trauma and burn center. As an academic medical center, MetroHealth is committed to teaching and research. Each active staff physician holds a faculty appointment at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Our main campus hospital houses a Cleveland Metropolitan School District high school of science and health. The MetroHealth System is committed to creating a healthier community.
S ummary:
Enhances the operational flow of the assigned practice/medical service at the main campus satellites, and affiliated community partners. Performs a variety of duties to support the department and assigned faculty members. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
Responsibilities:
1. Enhances the operational flow of the assigned department at the main campus and satellites by:
a. Maintaining templates of outpatient clinics.
b. Scheduling appointments.
c. Answering patient phone calls.
d. Processing and tracking of programs for program assistance.
e. Assisting patients with completion of forms and surveys.
f. Tracking insurance authorization.
g. Coordinating procedure room and provider visits.
h. Maintaining provider scheduling and rotation of sites.
i. Coordinates physician activity within Skilled Nursing Home Facility or other locations within The MetroHealth System.
j. Secure completion of care plan oversight.
2. Provides preliminary contact with general public, patients, office visitors, etc. Screens calls and visitors according to office procedure. Exercises discretionary decision making ability in replying to telephone and written inquiries.
3. Drafts, edits, and finalizes grant paperwork as assigned. Manages renewal dates and accounts for spending of existing grant funds. Maintains necessary databases essential to research services.
4. Types routine and confidential correspondence, reports, etc. Assists in their preparation and/or distribution as requested. Performs clerical tasks of a routine nature. Maintains and searches files. Photocopies materials. Maintains office supply inventory and places orders. Receives, sorts, and distributes mail.
5. Schedules speakers, selects topics, and advertises/markets public community health forums. Coordinates health forums. Coordinates community outreach activities with MetroHealth Communication Department.
6. Functions as liaison with university/college schools of medicine for coordinating/tracking rotators through assigned medical service.
7. Manages appointment schedule. Makes travel arrangements, reservations, and prepares reimbursement forms. Schedules meetings and assembles agenda with notification to appropriate sources. Records meeting minutes and distributes to attendees.
8. Participates in quality improvement programs and customer service initiates by identifying quality issues, and initiating ideas and solutions for resolution.
9. May travel between clinics at MH main campus, satellites, and affiliated community partners.
10. Assists physicians and administrator as required and assists in handling all confidential matters.
11. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school graduate or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
Minimum three years of relevant experience.
Proficient PC skills with Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint and the Internet.
Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills, communication skills and problem solving.
Ability to work independently within a team environment.
Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
Preferred:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree.
Related experience in a medical practice.
Experience working in an educational/medical research setting.
Medical terminology.
Medical program coordination experience.
Bilingual Spanish based on departmental need.
Physical Demands:
May need to move around intermittently during the day, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and ambulating.
May need to remain still for extended periods, including sitting and standing.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
Ability to read job related documents.
Ability to use computer.
