For over 50 years, Metrocare has provided a broad array of services to people with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health care, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, services for veterans and their families, accessible pharmacies, housing, and supportive social services. Alongside clinical care, researchers and teachers from Metrocare’s Altshuler Center for Education & Research are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County while providing critical workforce to the state.

The Lead Crisis Intervention Specialist will work with an interdisciplinary treatment team providing intensive, community-based behavior support services to consumers with developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental illness. This individual will train caregivers and staff and train and mentor CIS staff and develop plans to assist individuals at risk for needing crisis services. Will comply with on-call requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists individuals served and/or caregivers in identifying and articulating requests and needs for services and supports.
  • Collaborates with LIDDA to identify individuals at risk of being in crisis.
  • Provides behavioral support services (community-based training and support) to assigned caseload in preventing crisis.
  • Documents interactions and progress of consumers served.
  • Provides consultation services in school, hospital, criminal justice settings, an MCOT, and day habilitation/vocational workshops as indicated.
  • Develops a crisis respite service plan describing the therapeutic support needed by the individual served.
  • Facilitates the completion of in-depth functional assessment of maladaptive behaviors and the development of behavior plans.
  • Provides crisis management services as needed.
  • Ensures planned services and supports are implemented and appropriately documented.
  • Connects individuals served with appropriate services and support, as needed.
  • Documents all meetings and notes pertaining to individual service plans.
  • Implements Behavior Support plans.
  • Attends required treatment team meetings.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and training to Crisis Intervention Specialists as they have questions or concerns arise.
  • Assist in completing and attending Employee Performance Evaluations (as scheduled)
  • Mentor Crisis Intervention Specialists as problems and concerns arise
  • Provide thorough field training for incoming Crisis Intervention Specialists
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters or Doctorate Degree in the field of Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Social Work, or another related field.
  • Three to five years of supervised experience in providing behavior services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to successfully use an automated clinical record-keeping system.
  • Ability to utilize the Internet for resources.
