PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for the total operations of the produce department and management of employees, including hiring, firing, training, coaching, and scheduling. Manages the department to ensure an unprecedented shopping experience for the customer.; to promote sales; and to achieve profit margins and labor goals by focusing on quality and freshness.

COMPANYWIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Follows all company and department policies and standard operating procedures.

2. Complies with federal and state regulations.

3. Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

4. Adheres to all cleaning and sanitation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity, patience and respect in all customer interactions.

2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings.

3. Assists customers throughout the store by:

  • Escorting them to products they are looking for
  • Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out of reach
  • Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations
  • Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner
  • Treating them as the most important people in the store

4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store.

5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working and shopping environment.

6. Develops department schedule to match customer traffic, ensuring proper staffing at peak times.

7. Ensures well-trained employees open and close the department per standard operating procedures.

8. Organizes backroom and coolers to receive daily deliveries, and ensures proper temperatures of coolers.

9. Ensures preliminary and final inspections occur on all deliveries; manages shipments to adhere to storage and code dating standard operating procedures.

10. Writes all orders based on individual store needs and trends while being alert to communications from the produce merchandising team.

11. Manages the process for price changes and in-store transfers.

12. Ensures that all products are culled daily to promote quality and freshness for sale. Ensures removal and disposal of unsellable product from the sales floor.

13. Ensures proper cold chain procedure is adhered to at all times; this includes delivery to the store, storage, stocking, and holding on the sales floor.

14. Follows all merchandising guidelines, including display models, signage, and product packaging.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires high school diploma or general education degree; three years plus retail experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires some supervisory experience in management or lead roles previously. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals in order to read financial reports. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

WORKING CONDITIONS & FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in a retail store environment where there is regular exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces. The noise level is moderate, consistent with a retail store environment, and does include occasional noise of power tools and equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, turn, kneel, reach, squat, and stoop/bend. This position requires frequent lifting/carrying of 5 to 80 lbs., pushing/pulling 200 to 2000 lbs., as well as occasional crawling, climbing ladders, and walking on uneven ground. This position requires regular use of equipment such as knives, pallet jack, forklift, flatbed, box cutter, and pricing gun.
