The purpose of Metro East Humane Society (MEHS) is to enhance the well-being of individuals, cats, and dogs in Madison, St. Clair, Jersey, Bond, andMacoupin counties through its comprehensive animal welfare initiatives. We fulfill this mission by operating two no-kill shelters in Edwardsville and Highland, Illinois where our staff provides a safe haven for animals in need with humane medical treatment and care. Through our foster and adoption programs, we connect rescued animals with loving, responsible homes. Our partnerships play a pivotal role in achieving our goal of a no-kill community. MEHS partners with local animal control agencies to implement programs that improve access to essential resources and care. We promote the humane and respectful treatment of all animals by providing trap-neuter-release (TNR) services, vaccine and microchip clinics, as well as low-cost spay and neuter services to the general public. Furthermore, our MEHS Riverbend Pet Food Pantry program provides free pet food and pet supplies to families throughout the Metro-East region. MEHS strives to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change in animal welfare. Together, with our dedicated staff, volunteers, supporters, and partners, we work tirelessly to advocate, protect, and care for animals, one life at a time.
MEHS is financially supported solely through the generosity of the public. We receive no financial support from taxes or from the government. Our financial survival depends on generous donations from humane members of the public.
