Veterinary Technician – Full Time

Position Summary: The veterinarian technician works directly with the Metro East Humane Society Shelter Veterinarian to provide medical support by means of technical work, record keeping and communication tasks. The veterinarian technician has a very significant role in communicating with and educating pet owners and support staff.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform, track and log all medical care
  • Assist veterinarian with diagnostic and surgical procedures
  • Maintain animal records
  • Work with intake coordinators to verify age and health status at intake
  • Communicate animal needs to staff and public effectively
  • Respond to medical concerns brought forth by animal care workers in a timely manner
  • Schedule, discuss and examine any sick or injured animals with veterinarian
  • Organize public and MEHS surgical schedule – pre-surgical record preparation and post-surgical releases and record entries.
  • Work with veterinarian and management to grow and support all MEHS programs

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Certified Veterinary Technician preferred but experienced Veterinary Technicians without certification will be considered
  • 1 year experience working in a veterinary practice
  • Must be a quick-thinker and make decisions independently
  • Multi-task and prioritize in line with organizational priorities, deal with a certain level of expected challenges and be able to meet deadlines
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and database management
  • Ability to present MEHS in a consistent manner in accordance to our brand and image
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

We promote the humane and respectful treatment of all animals by providing trap-neuter-release (TNR) services, vaccine and microchip clinics, as well as low-cost spay and neuter services to the general public. Furthermore, our MEHS Riverbend Pet Food Pantry program provides free pet food and pet supplies to families throughout the Metro-East region. MEHS strives to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change in animal welfare. Together, with our dedicated staff, volunteers, supporters, and partners, we work tirelessly to advocate, protect, and care for animals, one life at a time.

MEHS is financially supported solely through the generosity of the public. We receive no financial support from taxes or from the government. Our financial survival depends on generous donations from humane members of the public.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
