Metric Engineering is Hiring a Project Accountant Near Miami, FL

Metric Engineering is looking for an experienced Project Accountant to join our Corporate team in our Miami office. This position is responsible for the lifecycle of project accounting in accordance with the established accounting standards, project accounting policy and ensuring compliance with contractual guidelines and requirements

Day-to-Day:

  • Communicate with Project Managers (PMs) and team, regarding project set up, contract documents, and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.
  • Set-up, review and confirm billing terms, fees, other accounting related issues in order to support proper allocation of labor and expenses to projects and revenue recognition.
  • Review and evaluate project charges for accuracy, complete cost transfers, establish and update project budgets as needed, and ensure that all project data is current.
  • Processes subconsultant invoices, company invoices and project financial reports on a monthly basis or as called for by schedule.
  • Responsible for ensuring draft invoices are accurate and based on contract requirements, identifying any needed corrections, obtaining Project Manager documentation and approval.
  • Submit final invoices to clients. Maintain billing folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents, including expenses, consultant invoices, and monthly invoices, in accordance with company standard procedures.
  • Prepare final invoice package containing draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup for reconciliation by the Accounting Department.
  • Meet with Project Managers to review project performance and key financial information. Research any unbilled issues to optimize opportunities for billing.
  • Communicate and work with accounts payables team members on issues related to consultant invoicing and reimbursable expenses.
  • Communicate and work with cash receipts team members to reconcile any variances.
  • Write off any uncollectible labor, or expenses, as directed and approved by PMs and senior management.
  • Prepare special project analyses/reports for PMs and others.
  • Monitor key indicators for managing and analyzing problem projects (Negative variance, backlog, etc.), keeping project managers and/or accounting informed on any noted concerns.
  • Support Project Managers with subconsultant expense management (review and approval). Verify that invoices from the subconsultants comply with contract terms.
  • Provide support to internal and external auditors, as required, which may include research and reconciliations.
  • Assist project management team with project close out process including but not limited to final invoice and release of retainage.
  • Close out project accounts upon project completion.
  • Recommend and implement agreed process improvements to the billing cycle.
  • Remain current in latest project accounting principles and subject matter.
  • Perform additional assignments, as directed by the Project Accounting Manager.

What you should bring:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, engineering or business preferred (or demonstrated proven equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting, preferable in A/E environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Deltek Vision or other accounting platform, a plus.
  • Ability to learn new systems and procedures with ease.
  • Familiar with standard contract terms, including hourly, lump sum, not-to-exceed and how they are applied in the billing process.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to work well with others or independently under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • High level of problem-solving skills and analysis, and report problems as necessary.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Professional, able to work with multiple stakeholders including Executives, Project Managers, Accounting and Clients.
