Description

Job Summary 

The One Stop is the hub for Academic and Career Advising and Academic Support at Methodist University. Reporting to the Director of Academic Support, the Coordinator for Student Success works to provide academic support services and resources for all students, ensuring access to student support services both on campus and remotely, and works with students to provide academic coaching.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Connect students to appropriate resources and provide support for and coordination of daily operations within the Academic Support Center.
  • Assist the Director of Academic Support with hiring, training, and managing peer tutors and student representatives.
  • Provide proactive outreach and individualized academic success coaching and plans to the at-risk students within an assigned caseload of students connecting them with appropriate interventions and student support.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff for student intervention, outreach, assist at-risk students, and advocacy when needed.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support students on Academic Warning status.
  • Work closely with professional career and academic advisors on student referrals to academic support services and advise on responses to early alert system reports.
  • Coordinate with coaches and athletic staff on academic programs and student support initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison for Academic Support on the University Case Management Team
  • Oversee and lead appropriate university-wide and discipline-specific presentations, workshops, and programs centered around Academic Support and student success.
  • Maintain and consistently research best practices and theories associated academic support, to include, but not limited to writing centers, tutoring, supporting students at-risk, and accessibility and disability services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education, Experience, and Essential Skills:

  • Master’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • Experience (2 years) in working with and coaching new students and students experiencing academic difficulty.
  • A dedicated interest in supporting the success of students.
  • Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory and practice in academic support, retention, and graduation initiatives. 
  • Proven track record of excellent leadership, team management, project management, and decision-making skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with online tools, resources for academic support and a commitment to continuously improving services to students.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the institution and with external partners.
  • Well-developed sense of professional ethics.
