Cincinnati Testing Laboratories, Inc., a subsidiary of Metcut Research Inc., is the world's premier independent materials engineering and testing organization offering expertise and laboratory facilities in the broad field of materials evaluation-including both metallic and nonmetallic structural materials. Our mission at CTL is to provide our worldwide customers with accurate, reliable, and ingenious materials evaluation and specimen preparation services. We are a full-service firm with significant, world-leading experience in testing materials – metals, intermetallics, composites, ceramics, and coatings – and in evaluating structural behavior.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineer II is responsible for day-to-day tasks that focus on the planning and execution of test programs. An Engineer II owns all aspects of a program’s scheduling, technical execution, communications (internal and external), and finances. EII ensures that programs progress in accordance with pre-established timelines, scope, and budgets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Project Management Role:

  • Possesses and effectively utilizes knowledge of the following: testing specifications related to our services, material attributes including methods and equipment used to generate properties, and best laboratory practices by routinely being present and engaged with technicians on the testing equipment.
  • Respond to incoming proposals by researching and developing quotations.
  • Independently recognizes the need for and develops designs and plans for custom test fixturing and equipment creating complex CAD drawings (2D and/or 3D) with proper tolerancing.
  • Produce the internal work instructions that detail how technicians and machinists will complete the necessary project tasks.
  • Can lead groups of associates to define and develop technical solutions that solve testing problems.
  • Evaluate existing processes for engineering correctness and accuracy.
  • Evaluate risk mitigation opportunities and develop contingency plans for events that can negatively impact services to clients. 
  • Proficient with data collection systems, creating automatic data processing tools, and creating graphical reports.
  • Compile data and test results into databases and formal reports while analyzing data for accuracy and continuity.
  • Own project financial matters by reviewing contracts, setting program budgets, detailing invoicing requirements, and producing periodic fiscal summaries and status updates. 
  • Develop expertise in at least one major service area of the company.
  • Owns and drives process improvement tasks designed to broaden and elevate the value of our services.

 Customer Relationships and Communications:

  • EII requires a working knowledge of our capabilities and leads client meetings.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with multiple buying influencers in the customers organization including materials and process engineers, program managers, and buyers.
  • Work with internal and external clients to establish mutual expectations regarding a program’s cost, technical scope, scheduled milestones, and communication plan.
  • Advocate on behalf of our clients. Gain insights that evolve our services to meet their growing needs.
  • Maintain outlook perspectives with client needs, competition, and industry trends in support of strategic sales and marketing plans. 
  • Participate in outside technical organizational events relative to the market serviced by the company.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field. (Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications and CAD software
  • Ability to lead topic discussions which require acute understanding or specialized knowledge.
  • Ability to pay meticulous attention to all aspects of a situation or task.
  • Maximum weightlifting requirement is 50lbs.
  • Standing to sitting ratio is 50/50, respectively.

  • Responsive – The job requires decisiveness, quick response, fast action. It will often be involved in critical situations demanding that on-the-spot decisions be made with good judgment. The job will repeatedly face important deadlines that must be met on time.
  • Time Management – possesses critical organization skills and able to prioritize and determine when additional resources are required to meet objectives or established deadlines. Uses one’s time efficiently to maximize the effectiveness of an individual’s efforts.
