    Job Summary:
    Operating under the general direction of the Executive Director this position functions as a District representative working to ensure the District’s overarching compliance with the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504. This position works with Teachers, Parents, building Leaders and Central Administration staff training staff on District policies and practices and their responsibilities under Section 504. Other responsibilities include monitoring and providing continuity for students with 504 Plans as they move to different buildings/ learning environments. Coordinator also Investigates complaints alleging violations of Section 504 ensuring consistent district-wide procedures. 504 Coordinator is a primary point of contact regarding ADA and Section 504 for the District and as such must collaborate and facilitate these interactions with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
    Instructional Supports and Deliveries:
    As assigned the primary responsibility for the 504 Accommodations Coordinator is to actively collaborate with District Leadership and staff to coordinates the District’s compliance with responsibilities under the Americans with Disability Acts; Section 504. Duties and expectations of the Coordinator toward this goal include:
    • Participating and contributing to setting goals and standards and making decisions that help guide Mesa County Valley School District 51 (MCVSD 51) toward its goals for Section 504 disability compliance, procedures, and documentation;
    • Cooperatively resolving current issues of major significance that will have a bearing on the programs and people of MCVSD 51 as assigned;
    • Being decisive in taking and communicating appropriate remedial action when performance and behavior is not consistent with targets;
    • Sharing information and developing a collective understanding of issues and the scope of the Americans with Disabilities Act and specifically Section 504.
    • Oversees the District’s overarching compliance with the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 ensuring nondiscrimination statements, access information, grievance procedures and other disability-related policies are up-to-date, posted, and distributed as required. The Section 504 Coordinator should hold sufficient knowledgeable about the requirements under state and federal disability discrimination laws, regulations, and guidance to advise the district about its policies, procedures, and practices. This role develops and manages a District-wide system that gives each school site the roles and processes to use in responding to 504 concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
    • Manages and trains staff on their responsibilities under Section 504. Expectations include developing common standards, assessment and data collection tools, and methods for evidence-based decision-making. Employee shares information monitoring and providing feedback to building teams regarding current student accommodations and ADA/Section 504 Compliance. In addition, the Coordinator further ensures all responsible employees are trained to report potential discrimination based on a disability. This role collaborates with other administrative leadership sharing overlapping responsibilities, including triannual reevaluations, and may also work with building teams, special education leadership, and others to support specific projects, targeted messaging, and other ADA related activities.
    • 504 Assessment reports are submitted to the designated personnel with expectations for this position to assist with action plans, communications, and follow-up resolution status. This position holds a responsibility to monitor and provide continuity for students with 504 Plans as they move to different buildings/ learning environments. Other duties include regular and requested collection and analysis of relevant data to be used in a variety of updates and reports to District leadership. This role represents the District’s stance on 504 Accommodation issues for committees and advisory boards as assigned. Employee holds an expectation to attend and actively participate in committee meetings, and collaborate on setting, implementing, monitoring and maintaining District ADA and Section 504 policies and procedures.
    • Investigates complaints alleging violations of Section 504 ensuring consistent district-wide procedures for notification of rights, referral, evaluation, planning, and implementation for students with a Section 504 Plan. The Coordinator also provides disability-related notices to limited English-speaking parents of students with disabilities, in the parents’ native language by translation or documented oral interpretation.
    • Ensures that District services, activities, and facilities are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities. Coordinator ensures the student’s Plan includes what services the student will need, based on the disability and who within the school is responsible for implementing the accommodation/service. The Coordinator is responsible for the District’s 504 complaint process/grievance policy, including ensuring prompt and impartial investigations occur and notifying complainants of the outcomes.
    • Additional duties may be assigned as needed/required.
    Qualifications:
    • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education Counseling, Psychology, Behavior Studies, Rehabilitation, or other related field of study from an accredited college or university; preference for Master’s Degree*
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in Classroom Teacher role; preference for training and experience with 504 Accommodations;
    • Minimum two years’ related professional experience working with people with disabilities;
    • Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) licensure with Special Education Generalist endorsement or other acceptable Special Education endorsement required;
    • Preference for demonstrated knowledge and experience working with district systems and structures and assisting teachers in developing expulsion support systems;
    • Continuing Education expectations for training and knowledge of educational laws, specifically civil rights in education, investigating or auditing civil rights laws in educational institutions.
    *Acceptable demonstration of acceptable education and/or experience will be at the sole discretion of the District.

    $46,743 - $97,600 based on one (1) FTE at one hundred eighty eight (188) days.
    Hiring Range for External Candidates:
    $46,743 - $80,240
    • Teachers are initially placed according to experience. Teachers new to the District may be granted up to 15 years of experience, provided the experience occurred within the last 20 years in accordance with the MVEA Agreement.
