Merrillville Community School Corporation is Hiring a Family & Community Engagement Specialist Grant Funded Near Merrillville, IN

Position is Federally funded and will be reviewed annually for possible continuance

Position is a school year position - 184 days


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide information and support to parents and students that will help maintain or increase attendance rate, increase awareness of and connect students and families to school resources, and increase engagement in school programming and activities
  • Notify and collaborate with school administration and social work staff when students and families are in need of social support and community resources
  • Serve as a liaison between the home, school, and truancy court, making sure families are aware of truancy court procedures and expectations; following up with families who are assigned to participate in court-recommended programs (i.e. Geminus, CAPS program)
  • Serve as liaison to the school PTO, providing support and helping to promote PTO activities; If there is no active PTO, the FACES will collaborate with building administration to help recruit and establish a PTO.
  • Will be a member of the building-level PBIS Universal and/or CIC committees.
  • Supports the establishment, promotion, management, and maintenance of a parent resource room.
  • Collaborate with Title I staff to plan and implement parent and family Title I programming and activities
  • Assists with new student orientation (e.g. reviewing building rules and expectations, providing tour of building, connecting students and families to building resources, etc.)
  • Collaborate with building administration and school resource officer to make home visits when necessary.
  • Maintains complete, up-to-date, and accurate records of contacts with students, parents, and staff.
  • All other duties as assigned by the building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher. Social services field or related preferred.
  • Superior human relations skills required.
  • Effective communication skills required.
  • Understanding of child/behavioral development.
  • Possess leadership skills.
  • Candidate must be flexible, punctual and highly organized.
  • Experience with agencies that provide support for the indigent community.
