CAD Operator with Structure Experinece
Job Details Description Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to work effectively on design teams, coordinate with team members (including other CAD drafters, designers, engineers, managers, administrative staff, and construction staff), and contribute to the creation of final engineering documents.
Leadership and Direction:
  • You will perform work under moderate supervision, exercising independent judgment and discretion occasionally. While not having direct supervisory responsibilities, you will serve as a lead/resource among colleagues in equivalent roles, sharing technical proficiency, guidance, and mentorship. You may occasionally assist in delegating assignments or providing feedback to managers.
  • At the Operational and Company Level
  • Your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing working structural drawings from conceptual plans to final engineering documents and construction record drawings.
  • Assisting with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to attract new clients and enhance relationships.
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to independently start and complete projects with limited supervision.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring the achievement of product quality and timely output.
  • Visit project sites as required to collect data and coordinate with clients and vendors.
  • Transform initial rough structural designs using computer-aided design (CAD) into working construction documents or design plans.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other CAD staff to modify plans based on mark-ups and structural design revisions.
  • Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
  • Research, review, interpret, and understand written design standards, regulations, code compliance, and permit requirements, applying them to design projects.
  • Revise plans according to client, manager, or agency reviewer comments and redlines.
  • Work closely with project managers to determine if scope of work or budgets need revision.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments based on verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submission for review.
  • Actively seek work assignments for design or CAD drafting duties from project managers within allocated budgets.
  • Promote, utilize, and support quality assurance and quality control processes to improve deliverable quality and reduce design errors and omissions.
  • Delegate responsibilities for submitting plans on time.
  • Assist in organizing, creating, and maintaining all CAD or CAD-related files for clients, town, or county intake.
  • May supervise a less senior CAD technician/designer during a portion of the job.

Education & Experience:
  • Associate degree or equivalent in drafting or an engineering design-related technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of experience using CAD standards, preferably in building, transport, and/or marine infrastructure within the AEC industry.
  • Equivalent of computer certificate for CAD Class Training.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design software.
  • Experience with computer applications and software such as Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and successfully complete a motor vehicle records check.
