Merion Golf Club is private golf club in Ardmore, PA, established in 1896. The club has hosted more USGA championships than any other golf course in America and is home to some of history’s greatest golf moments. Merion’s historic East Course has been recently ranked 6th in the country, and 12th in the world while Merion’s West Course has become one of Philadelphia's premier golf courses and continues to improve every year. Merion Golf Club is looking for an Assistant-in-Training Golf Course Superintendent. The AIT reports directly to the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and aids in the direction and participation in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths.
Essential Functions:
Educational Requirements
Currently enrolled or graduated from a two or four-year Turfgrass Management program, certificate program, or related field.
Experience Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
1. Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, hand watering and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
2. Ability to lead and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
3. Requires current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator or the ability to acquire licensing within 12 months of starting.
4. Ability to follow oral and written directions.
5. Positive attitude and the willingness to be coached, to learn, and to grow!
