LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE SOCIAL WORK INTERNSHIP (NON-PAID)
OVERVIEW
Mercy Street exists to cultivate mutually transforming relationships with inner-city youth through Christian mentorship. Mercy Street offers programs in 3 areas: sports, mentoring, and leadership development, for the students of West Dallas and South Dallas.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Mercy Street Dallas is seeking a highly motivated psychology or social work major to join our team as an unpaid intern working with our Leadership Institute students this summer. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The internship will help the individual gain a deeper understanding of social work and ministry as well as provide opportunities to engage with their communities. It will also develop skills in communication, de-escalation, teamwork, organization, accountability and problem solving. The intern will work closely with the Director of Mentoring & Leadership and the Leadership Institute Coordinator to serve students in the summer Leadership Institute.

MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL
The Intern is first and foremost considered to be a Minister of the Gospel. This position furthers Mercy Street’s religious mission by:
a. Following Jesus Christ and setting an example for others through their lifestyle.
b. Exhibiting a passion for sharing the Gospel with others.
c. Being willing and able to explain the message of the Gospel to kids and families of Mercy Street.
d. Being willing and able to counsel, shepherd, and disciple kids and families of Mercy Street in a manner consistent with the Bible.
e. Being willing and able to explain Mercy Street’s beliefs and Statement of Faith in person or over the phone to kids and families of Mercy Street.
f. Being ready, willing, and able to lead or contribute to distinctly Christian activities (including, but not limited to, worship or staff chapel).
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Observe student interactions in order to assess areas of need.
• Provide support to identified students.
• Provide supplemental insight and/or curriculum that serves the behavioral health of students.
• Assist with college prep activities for students.
• Assist with research projects and data analysis.
• Prepare educational materials and handouts on mental health topics.
• Participate in professional development opportunities as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in psychology, social work or a related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Compassionate and understanding with a genuine interest in mental health.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
HOURS & COMMITMENT
• Dates of Internship: May 30 – July 26, 2024
• Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9am – 12pm
