SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP)

REPORTS TO DIRECTOR OF AUTISM SERVICES
POLICY: Provides and directs all aspects of quality care, including Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment, treatment planning, goal setting, documentation, and family education according to organization’s guidelines, professional standards, and community needs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • License in Speech-Language Pathology with the State of Michigan
  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) or CFY will be considered
  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of behavioral principles and instructional strategies for students with autism and other behavior disorders
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working with children and toddlers with special needs, and preferable autism, in the field of Speech-Language Pathology
  • Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience across a variety of age ranges and abilities
  • Current and valid driver’s license and auto insurance
  • QBS, adult/child CPR, and first aid certified
  • Current negative TB test
  • Clear criminal history and background checks
  • Demonstrate high level of compassion for others
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations within employment area
  • Maintain client and staff confidentiality

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication
  • Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include heavy lifting 50 lbs. or more and extensive bending and standing
  • Willingness to undergo Quality Behavioral Solutions (QBS) training and effectively implement these techniques when necessary, including monitoring usage of techniques by SLPAs when applicable
  • Is neat in appearance and practice, with good personal hygiene

DUTIES:

  • Provide quality and safe delivery of one-on-one SLP services according to licensure
  • Timely submission of all documentation to ensure accurate records for each client
  • Create a plan of care tailored to client’s needs, goals, and skills following interpretation of evaluation results and clinical observations
  • Communicate effectively with other behavior technicians, behavior consultants, and speech/occupational/physical therapy providers
  • Directs and supervises the work of assistants, aides, and students as applicable with state and federal guidelines
  • Follows all organizational and facility safety procedures regarding one’s personal protection and client safety
  • Communicates client status, progress, and needs to the client, family, caregivers, or other HIPAA approved parties involved in the client’s care as necessary
  • Advocates for the well-being of clients across contexts
  • Prepares and submits billing accurately and timely
  • Supports and participates in department operations and development, and attends all clinician staff meetings
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and clean environment
  • Adheres to professional standards
  • Complete and maintain insurance specific credentialing requirements in a timely manner
