Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a part-time Supportive Housing Counselor.
The Supportive Housing Counselor is dedicated to promoting the well-being of our consumers by providing supportive services to individuals in the Supportive Housing Program that are consistent with their personal recovery goals, cultural background, and beliefs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct walk throughs of the site(s).
• Assists the individual in the development of realistic and measurable personal recovery goals that are culturally sensitive to their beliefs and background as it relates to their recovery. Includes other individuals of their choosing as needed.
• Provide supportive services which include, but are not limited to; crisis intervention, teaching daily living skills, assessment for and referral to other community services and teaching how to be appropriate tenants in an apartment setting.
• Provides crisis management services.
• Participate in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills 111 a safe and professional manner.
• Complete program log book entries via the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Participate in supervision with Supervisory staff
• Attend meetings/seminars/in-service as required.
• Learn and adhere to all agency policies and procedures applicable to this program
• Develop and maintain a good working rapport with all staff to assure services
• and activities are adequately maintained to meet the needs of the members. Identify and assist in correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
• Accepts and follows through on other duties as assigned.
Maintain professional status if applicable through in-service and other trainings and participate in continuing educational programs designed to assure knowledge of changes in profession and/or the mental health field.
Requirements
Education at least High School Diploma required
Driving “clean” NY State driver’s license, required
Computer SkillsMust have working knowledge of MS Word, Basic Internet
Other Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
