Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a Residential Counselor.

The Residential Counselor provides continuous supervision, assistance, and support to individuals with mental illness by promoting greater independence which is done by assisting and supporting residents in day-to-day activities, personal care, skills building, community integration, and counseling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate care including psychiatric, medical, dental, etc., to incorporate conducting collateral contact, scheduling and attending treatment team meetings
• Develop plans intended to deliver client centered services focusing on skills for independent living and review plans quarterly
• Conduct goal sessions and document progress in client chart via electronic record for each resident on caseload
• Assist with monthly fire drills and insure compliance with all fire and safety procedures
• Conduct and document weekly community meetings with residents to discuss/address issues and/or concerns
• Assess and document as necessary periodic evaluation of resident’s capability of self-preservation
• Implement resident’s individual service plans as assigned by Residence Supervisor, to include regular meetings with residents regarding goals and progress
• Perform related duties as required and necessary

Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in human services or related field preferred OR Associate’s Degree in human services field and three (3) years experience in human services OR High School Degree and Five (5) years experience in human services

Skills/ Ability

• Computer proficiency, including working knowledge of electronic health records systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook)
• Excellent interpersonal skills required
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Experience in a housing program preferred

Driving: Necessary. Must have a "clean" and valid NYS driver’s license
