With Melt Shop, we set out to make the best damn sandwich on the planet. Period. Better than our Mom’s (sorry, Mom). Better than your Mom’s. It’s the comfort food you love, but like you’ve never had it before. Next level stuff, made from only the best ingredients, fresh-baked bread every day, and the best cheese around.

Created in 2011, Melt Shop is an American sandwich concept focused on comfort food made from scratch. We now have locations in Manhattan, Long Island, NJ, and PA and are preparing to grow our brand nationally.

Job Title –
Team Member

At Melt Shop, we believe in cross-training our team members. Teaching our team members every station helps them develop professionally and make the greatest impact at our restaurant.

Teaching our team members every station also prepares team members to enter our Manager-In-Training program. This position requires someone who likes to cook, smile, talk, and serve awesome food.

As a Team Member you are heavily involved in controlling guest interactions. You are the face of our brand and have more communication with our guests than any other position. We are looking for people who have a passion for customer service and are both positive and energetic.

You must be comfortable with and enjoy serving and interacting with our guests. Team Members are not hired for one position, but to help out with every aspect of the store. Team Members are trained to learn many different positions within the restaurant. Some of these positions may include, cook, frontline coordinator, order taker, register operator, and beverage and dining room attendant.There are additional responsibilities associated with the opening and closing of the restaurant that a Team Member will be responsible to complete depending upon work shift.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Offers friendly service to all guests
  • Takes customer orders, maintains fast, accurate service, and positive guest relations
  • Operates grill and sandwich maker in an efficient and safe manner
  • Ensures company standards on equipment, facility, and grounds are maintained
  • Ensures food quality and 100% guest satisfaction
  • Maintains the restaurant with regards to cleanliness, neatness and customer accessibility
  • Uses the company cash register accurately and maintains proper control of company assets
  • Works as a team member to support other restaurant employees in their duties
  • Receives payments by cash, credit or debit cards, and gift cards
  • Issues receipts, refunds, or change due
  • Assists customers by providing menu information and resolving their complaints or concerns
  • Readily identifies prices of menu items and calculate bill using POS
  • Enthusiastically greets customers entering restaurant
  • Answers guest questions and provides information of the store’s policies and relevant procedures regarding the preparation or cooking process
  • Maintains a clean and orderly register area.
  • Mixes milkshakes and other beverages as necessary
  • Completes other general cleaning duties such as emptying trash cans and cleaning dining area
  • Stocks and maintains the fountain machine
  • Ensures food quality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by General Manager or Assistant Manager


Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Experience:
    1 year of experience in either a food service or retail environment is preferred. Experience in providing customer service and a desire to grow in the food industry is strongly preferred. You must have a very hands on work style and be actively involved in all daily functions of the store.

  • Certifications:
    A NYC Food Handlers License /Serve safe is not required to be considered for this position but is preferred.

  • Language Ability:
    Good communication and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos is necessary. The position also requires the ability to write simple correspondences and the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers.This position requires that you are able to convey information effectively and accurately, vocalize clearly and loudly enough to be heard in a noisy environment, and proficiently speak, read, and write the English language.

  • Math Ability:
    The position requires knowledge of simple math and its application to receive and disburse cash. This includes the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Computer Skills:
    Must be able to operate a cash register.

  • Physical Demands:
    The position’s physical demands require work in a restaurant/kitchen environment with moderate to loud noise levels, varying temperature conditions and possible direct exposure to hazardous substances, such as hot oil. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, travel and react quickly to deadlines, sometimes with little notice. The employee is often required to stand for long periods; walk, bend, kneel, and reach with hands to retrieve boxes or food containers typically weighing 50 pounds or less, without restrictions. May be required to use a stepladder. Finger dexterity is required for use of the cash register. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel as needed.

  • Hospitality:
    Actively look for ways to help guests, provide as much information as requested. Infer possible customer needs, as it may be their first experience at the restaurant. Knowledge of, quality standards of service, store policies regarding customer interaction, assessment of customer needs, and customer satisfaction are all necessary.

  • Active Listening
    : Give full attention to what customers are saying, be able to listen to and process the customer orders without losing track.

  • Social Perceptiveness:
    Be aware of customers’ reactions, both verbal and nonverbal, and understand why they are reacting this way. Understand the boundaries of appropriateness.

  • Integrity
    : Must be honest and possess an immense code of ethics as the cashier is the primary receiver of the cash flow.

  • Reasoning Ability:
    The position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations and people. You will need the ability to apply general rules of the job to successfully solve problems that may occur without involving the manager.Strong analytical and decision-making skills are needed.
