Description

CULTURE: 

The Manager of Surgical Services is responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, direct and indirect, patient family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care to include preoperative, operating room, post anesthesia care, and sterile processing. The O.R. Manager provides functional direction to members of the perioperative team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The O.R. manager also oversees Employee Health. The direct report for this manager role is the CNO.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manage perioperative services both operationally and fiscally.
  • Monitor that necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
  • Ensure that surgical instruments and equipment operate properly, appropriate QA is conducted per AORN/Manufacturer requirements.
  • When equipment requires repair or replacement, communicates needs to CNO and/or Administration as required and provides recommendations to support department/provider needs.
  • Actively participates in capital planning for ongoing department needs and strategic growth.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the surgical area.
  • Incorporates evidence-based knowledge into decisions for the provision of safe, patient-centered care in perioperative services.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team, providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Is a representative to nursing, medical staff, and hospital administration in matters of policies, procedures, and budgetary expenditures.
  • Develops, interprets and implements policies and procedures in compliance with AORN guidelines, state and federal agencies and hospital philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Monitors compliance with established standards assuring that nursing care objectives are met.
  • Meets regularly with the CNO to communicate activities and needs of the department.
  • Verify that perioperative personnel provide safe and effective patient centered care.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
  • Interviews and hires perioperative and sterile processing personnel.
  • Evaluates perioperative and employee health personnel performance.
  • Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical team.
  • Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization as agreed with the CNO.
  • Verify that educational resources are available for perioperative services personnel and hold personnel accountable for compliance with established standards.
  • Act as a clinical resource for perioperative personnel using current literature and guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Assist perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Is capable of being an active team member assuming the role of scrub nurse, circulating nurse and recovery room nurse and taking call.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Continuous learning in both personal and professional development.
  • Consistent review, comprehension and reply of company email and related correspondence.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • Required education: Associate degree or higher in Nursing and clinical OR experience, minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Skills: Analytical, organized, multitasked, excellent communicator, collaborative, relationship building, scheduling experience.
  • Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of Colorado.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, TNCC, ACLS, PALS.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, healthcare administration, Business Administration, or similar field and clinical knowledge that would come from being an MA, LPN, RN.
  • Bilingual but not essential

MELISSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL:

Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
