Meharry Medical College is Hiring a Remote EDA Data Steward

The Data Steward will support the implementation and management of Meharry’s enterprise data governance activities under the Clinical Data Stewardship department of the Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) division at Meharry Medical College (MMC). Focused on core data technologies with strong ties to application areas across campus, the EDA division collects, stores, analyzes, governs, and stewards data to drive optimal outcomes for the entire Meharry Medical College enterprise which comprises the Academic enterprise, the Business enterprise, the Clinical enterprise, and the Research enterprise. The Data Steward will be responsible for the continuous improvement of data quality and governance strategy that manages the full data life cycle across the Enterprise data ecosystem. This position will ensure compliance with the enterprise data governance framework by defining processes, practices, and policies related to access, sharing, and usage, to ensure the integrity and usefulness of data assets by supporting consistent definition, documentation, and appropriate use. The Data Steward will serve as a dedicated data governance champion, evangelist, and point of escalation. The position will create and deliver specialized training to various stakeholder groups to improve the quality and value of data assets. This position will need interaction with stakeholders throughout Meharry and will partner directly with EDA departments, health information management systems, Risk and Compliance, and the Office of Information Technology to monitor activities and ensure the integrity of data used for clinical, research, and administrative purposes. Daily Operations Manage data assets, establish a centralized data catalog, data documentation, and metadata management. Participate in training faculties, students, and staff in data access and pertinent tools. Support implementation of a data management strategy, including user policies and training materials, set refresh cycles, and statistical reporting for achieving and maintaining high data quality. Stay abreast of new products in the data management market, conducting research on emerging trends and developments that could support the business. Effectively ensure that the data asset management policies, standards, and best practices are shared across the business unit and embedded in new development projects Ensure that new systems, applications, and data integration measures adhere to existing data management practices, policies, and procedures. Be responsible for understanding end-to-end data lifecycle with data controls and identifying data dependencies in support of delivery, release, and change management Build and effectively govern Master Data repositories and attributes throughout the data life cycle in Meharry enterprise. Act as Business SME (subject matter expert) for Meharry Enterprise Master Data. Reinforce governance principles across core applications and Master Data sets when partnering with business and working on data gaps, issues, etc. Identify and ensure the resolution of data quality issues, such as uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness, in a cost-effective and timely manner. Execute audits periodically to ensure that data is being properly managed in the Cloud and On-Premise, and that legal or security requirements are consistently being met. Partner with other staff and perform data profiling on a regular basis, and review data quality statistics. Devise, coordinate, and conduct mass data-cleansing initiatives for the purpose of purging and eliminating corrupt or redundant information from corporate d Identify causes of poor data quality, implement solutions, and communicate findings to employees, management, and stakeholders. Develop and enforce methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality, and accuracy at the point of entry. Work collaboratively with the system architects to develop methods for synchronizing data entering company systems from multiple points, and within infrastructure On-Premise and within Clouds. Conduct research and make recommendations on products, tools, services, protocols, and standards that will support the data management strategy. Identify what data is more important to the business and assess, manage, monitor, and report on this data Will need to understand business processes and data needed to support these business processes Partner with core functions and business to create business process flows and data mapping Ensure that project management and software development methodologies include the steps, activities, and deliverables required to achieve high quality data. Work with project teams to identify the needs for new attribute fields and how those new fields should be maintained and governed. Propose data quality business rules with Make, Source, Deliver, Plan, and Finance business teams to drive up the quality of improving Material Master Data quality. Partner with the enterprise data quality team to create dashboards to visualize data quality challenges. Remediate transactional records that fail data quality rules and make corrections in the source systems. Collaborates with cross-functional IT & business teams to document and visualize business requirements Identify causes of poor data quality, implement solutions, and communicate findings to employees, management, and stakeholders. Develop and enforce methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality, and accuracy at the point of entry. Required Skill Knowledge of Master Data management approach preferred. Knowledge of common database architecture concepts, data management practices, and technologies. Knowledge of cyber security concepts, practices, and technologies. Knowledge of honest broker services and models Self-starter, self-motivated, high level of initiative within a fast-paced, constantly evolving data management environment. Knowledge of U.S. and international data privacy regulations especially related to protected health information Excellent diplomacy, facilitation, and communication skills Ability to demonstrate collaboration with diverse stakeholder groups, including research, clinical, and administrative faculty, and staff Demonstrate ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in complex clinical and business problems Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's or master’s degree in information management or a related field. Training or certification in data governance or data management. 2-3 years of experience in building, implementing, and supporting data management, data governance, and/or data stewardship activities and responsibilities, or equivalent, in a regulated environment required. Experience with an institutional review board (IRB) and/or human subjects’ research Proficiency in data governance concepts, practices, and technologies and ability to translate among languages used by the executive, business, and IT stakeholders Proficiency in project and program management concepts, practices, and technologies Experience defining and measuring key performance indicators and quality metrics Experience with data governance in a healthcare setting. Experience writing and reviewing and developing policies, processes, and procedures.
