Job Description:


Summary

The Machine Operator I is responsible for the safe control various Level I machines and equipment involved in production. Operate one or more machines to perform simple machine operations on highly repetitive and standardized parts. Responsible for the overall quality and efficiency of the machine and its output.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observe and follow safety rules as prescribed by the safety policies, including wearing required PPE.
  • Complete an expected amount of work based on time studies in accordance with schedule.
  • Able to operate all necessary equipment in a proficient manner.
  • Operates production machinery in accordance with customer requirements and specifications.
  • Assigned machines may include one or more of the following:
    • Wheel grinders, industrial grinder, press punch, joining machine and cutting machine/s, Manual Micro Hacksaw, Precision Drill, False Tooth Puncher, Two Hand Finger Puncher of all types, among others.
  • Adjust machine setups to maintain finish and tolerance requirements. Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances.
  • Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
  • Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces.
  • Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area and is responsible for the housekeeping of the general area around the machine/s including sweeping the work area and picking up loose items.
  • Under supervision, work procedures and products are subject to check and inspection.
  • Meets with engineers to discuss potential machine problems.
  • This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, additional training from trade school preferred.
  • Requires 1 - 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or other related experience.
  • Must be able to learn and use ERP system as it relates to specific job function such as entering data, printing, and reprinting labels, creating maintenance and repair work orders etc.
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills to interact with employees.
  • Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.

The incumbent will regularly stand, sit and talk and listen and will frequently use hands to finger, handle or touch, reach above shoulders and move from place to place. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • During the performance of his/her work duties, the incumbent will be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and will frequently lift up to 25 pounds such as moving parts from material storage and moving parts in and out of work area.

  • The employee works in a factory environment and is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals, moving machines and parts. He/she may be exposed to airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
