The Senior Materials Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the CRDM Materials Technology and Development teams (supporting TDS, Devices, Research) and providing inter-organizational leadership, technical work direction, and coaching. The Sr. Materials Manager will drive functional excellence, instill a foundational, 1st principles mindset within the team, and work with internal customers and suppliers to ensure that materials or solutions are capable of meeting performance requirements.
A Day in the Life:
• Provide strategic leadership and direction to the CRDM Materials teams (supporting TDS, Devices, Research) including management of objectives in line with Medtronic and CRDM goals.
• Manage materials organization and execution for results in support of Development, Technology, and Product support.
• Ensure the materials strategy is applied across projects and functions, meeting the needs of customers and CRDM business strategies by developing, communicating and implementing business plans to achieve business results.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners (BU Leaders, Project Leaders, and Cross-Functional constituents) to ensure the materials strategy is executed to achieve significant and measurable improvements in materials.
• Develop the technical talent in the materials organization with a goal of continuous improvement. Recognize trends and ensure proper skill sets and capacity to support execution of plans. Build a team of materials experts to define, lead, and drive new and innovative processes for dramatically improving materials science capabilities within the organization.
• Provides functional leadership to organization, overseeing team plans, performance management, talent management/development, salary administration, and employee relations issues. Actively work to promote employee engagement through organizational diversity and team building, including efforts in meeting GIDE (Global Inclusion, Diversity & Engagement) goals.
• Lead, organize and control planning for Annual Operating Plan (and longer term) expense budgets, capital expenditures and external partnership activities to ensure approved annual operating plans, programs, capital and expense budgets are achieved.
• Maintain appropriate communications within and between CRDM and other businesses to deliver on Medtronic’s overall business and materials strategies worldwide, collaborating as appropriate to ensure synergies with and between organizations.
• Support the evaluation of the external technology landscape and global external scouting efforts to ensure a complete pipeline of materials and technologies will be available.
• Drive continuous improvement in materials screening techniques to allow earlier decisions to eliminate candidate materials. Material technology and development evaluation to happen earlier and off of the critical path.
• Support the expansion of both internal and external collaboration efforts, working seamlessly across boundaries and divisions, including upstream with academia and corporate resources, cross-divisionally, and downstream with manufacturing.
• Drive positive change in developing predictive reliability efforts with current and new materials.
• Support current and next generation product development.
