Meds & Food for Kids – Finance Manager

An international, growing humanitarian NGO seeks an experienced Finance Manager. The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial processes. This position reports to the CEO and collaborates closely with department heads and program managers.

Responsibilities:

Financial Operations:

  • Interacts with the business coordinator to ensure timely processing of invoices, expense reimbursement, and vendor payments.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency.
  • Responsible for US payroll processing and ensuring accurate recording of employee compensation and benefits.
  • Maintain financial records and ledgers in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Budget Management:

  • Responsible for the preparation and presentation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to department heads and program managers.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Implement best practices in financial management and reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the Board of Directors.
  • Assist in grant budgeting and reporting, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for external stakeholders, including donors and funders.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
  • Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights into the organization's financial performance.

Compliance and Audit

  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Manage and serve as the primary contact for external audits by providing all necessary documents required.

Sector-Specific Responsibilities:

For Manufacturing Environment:

  • Apply cost accounting principles to analyze manufacturing costs and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Collaborates with the management team to produce accurate accounting of capital projects and expenditures.
  • Oversee inventory valuation, ensuring accurate reporting and valuation methods.

For Non-Profit:

  • Manage grant funds, ensuring compliance with budgeting, financial reporting, and grantor requirements.
  • Handle financial management of donor-restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor intentions.
  • Ensure compliance with non-profit regulatory requirements, including tax-exempt status and charitable giving rules.

This job is a full-time position, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a position that is expected to be self-directed and demonstrate leadership in office policies and protocols. The position offers full health care benefits (medical, dental, and vision) and a Simple IRA with a 100% matching employer contribution. Paid time off includes 3 weeks of vacation plus five days of personal/sick leave. The pleasant, small office environment is in Webster Groves / Shrewsbury area.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in accounting; additional experience in cost accounting is preferred. Non-profit and 990 experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online) and MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • French language skills would be a plus.
