Job Description

I. Position Summary:

Evaluates, plans, schedules, and administers treatment to patients as prescribed by referring physicians, charges and documents patient’s progress, maintains other appropriate records, and assists in the training of students, evaluating of equipment, promoting occupational therapy within the hospital and community, as well as keeping abreast of new techniques and possibilities of service.

II. Position Relationships:

A. Responsible to: Director of PM&R and Lead Occupational

Therapist.

B. Workers Supervised: None

C. Interrelationships: Works closely with other therapists, physicians;

constant contact with patients and families, nursing service, and other hospital employees.

III. Responsibilities and Authorities:

A. Overall:

Designs and implements treatment plans as prescribed by physicians and as indicated by evaluative procedures, to rehabilitate a person to his/her utmost functional ability through the use of therapeutic means. Has the authority to recommend disciplinary action pertaining to employees supervised.

B. Work Performed:

1. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.

2. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

3. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE Advantage” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

4. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

5. Administers medically prescribed occupational therapy programs and treatments.

6. Plans and coordinates treatment for patients in assigned areas.

7. Evaluates new patients and documents appropriately.

8. Directs and supervises activities of COTA’s and Aides in assigned areas, and sees that all maintain high standards of professionalism.

9. Participates in educational and training programs as necessary.

10. Completes medical documentation in an accurate and timely manner, consistent with rules and regulations.

11. Attends intra- and interdisciplinary meetings as needed to provide clinical input as necessary.

12. Evaluates equipment and maintains proper inventory of supplies.

13. Delegates appropriately to non-licensed staff.

14. Participates in rotating to necessary areas, setting will include but not limited to outpatient, rehab, acute care, and long-term acute care, to provide treatment coverage to patients where needed.

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:

A. Implements appropriate care to the following age groups: (circle all that apply)

B. Demonstrates independence in performing daily duties and in a timely manner.

C. Demonstrates proficiency in occupational therapy skills, and is responsible for self-growth and learning.

D. Demonstrates ability to plan and coordinate treatment area.

E. Demonstrates good supervisory skills.

F. Demonstrates excellent communication skills; follows appropriate channels of communication.

G. Role model – reflects professional attitude and work ethics through attendance, appearance, and behavior.

V. Qualifications:

A. Education:

Current Texas licensure or eligibility as an Occupational Therapist. Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.

C. Job Knowledge:

Knowledge of all procedures in Occupational Therapy. Must have understanding of basic supervision.

VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

A. Patient lifting and transferring.

B. Lifting and pushing of heavy and light equipment.

C. Constant standing and walking.
