Summary:

This is an entry-level position with introduction to reel room operations such as Runsheet Comprehension and Roll Identification. As a Reel Tender (Machine Operator) you will also be responsible for general housekeeping and maintaining the appropriate tools to conduct the job at hand.

What you will do:

• Review and determine necessary roll sizes for running on press. This is done by reviewing provided Imposition Run Sheets
• Develop and apply the skill to plan and prepare rolls for the multiple jobs on press for that assigned shift Roll Inspection and prep to include visual inspection for damage
• Apply double-sided tape and tear newsprint to construct a Running Paster Pattern
• Reel Operation knowledge is gained through demonstration and repetition
• Safety procedures are to be followed and applied constantly housekeeping is to be maintained throughout the shift
• General organization, sweeping and mopping as needed to control oil and debris
• Develop the skills need to troubleshoot and advance knowledge within the organization
• Participates in the cleanup and the complete set up of the presses providing education and/or assistance as necessary
• Communicates verbally with associates and management regarding work processes

What you will bring:

• 2 years of machine operator experience
• Must be willing to work the night shift, weekends and holidays
• Ability to stand, bend, climb, reach and kneel repeatedly during a 8 hour shift
• Must be able to read, speak and write fluently in English in order to communicate with the production team, read instructions and generate reports
• Mechanical aptitude is required in order to functionally work with printing press equipment and the ability to read and understand mark ups for page location and color positions on all runs
• Troubleshooting skills are required to diagnose problems and implement solutions
• Teamwork skills are required in order to work productively with production staff with the shared goal of completing newspaper printing with high quality standards by daily deadlines
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

This is a fully onsite, night shift role in Riverside, CA.

The hourly wage is $18.00 - $23.00.
