JOB DESCRIPTION

Mobile Position 24/48 Schedule

POSITION TITLE: EMT FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager and the Medical REVISION DATE: 02.10.2022

DEPARTMENT: Ground

GENERAL SUMMARY
The EMT assures provision of care to an assigned patient population or work site in a professional manner, utilizing the standard of care and the principles of continuous Quality Improvement in collaboration with other team members. EMT are responsible for the safety of patients prior to and during transport via ground-based EMS unit from and to medical care facilities.

This includes provision of life support measures required to stabilize critically ill or injured patients. EMT must have the ability to establish positive interpersonal and professional relationships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Operates an emergency vehicle.
  • Assesses the safety and hazards at the scene of an emergency.
  • Controls the hazards at an emergency scene.
  • Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury present and establishes the priorities for emergency care.
  • Under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician, treats injuries or illness using advanced life support techniques and medications; these may include: airway management, defibrillation, administration of any type of parenterally, orally, or topically approved medication or solution, oral/tracheal suctioning, and all Basic Life Support techniques.
  • Extricates patients from entrapment.
  • Provides special rescue services where trained in those specific areas.
  • Performs triaging of patients and management of mass casualty situations.
  • Lifts and moves patients.
  • Utilizes specialized communication equipment to consult with physicians and/or notify hospitals of patient's condition.
  • Completes detailed documentation on patient care and transport.
  • Understands and uses appropriate state and federal regulations pertaining to EMS, confined space, hazardous materials, incident command system, bloodborne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and controlled substances.
  • Reports verbally to receiving Physician as to the patient's condition and interventions performed.
  • Maintains the condition of the emergency response vehicle, aircraft, or vessel.
  • Maintains, cleans, restocks emergency supplies and equipment.
  • Attends continuing medical education (CME) on an ongoing basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, as well as onboard personal, and clinics.
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Ability to respond to phone calls, and emails quickly.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make decisions with a Medic partner.
  • Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, stoop, bend, grasp, use fine hand coordination, push, and pull.
  • To use appropriate safety equipment when exposure to infectious organisms, agents, and toxic chemicals is possible.
  • Ability to mix own medications, with correct knowledge of proper concentrations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

  • NREMT license
  • Alabama State EMSP license
  • CPR
  • EVOC

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 150 lbs. independently and more with assistance.
  • Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, stoop, bend, grasp, use fine hand coordination, push, and pull.
  • Ability to work in a confined and mobile environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year

  • Operating an Emergency Vehicle Requires the applicant to be insurable on Liability insurance, in order to be considered for a position that would operate an Emergency Vehicle, applicant must have a generally clean driving record over the past three years, and no DUI's or other instances of wreck less driving in the past 5 years, does your driving record meet these requirements?
