How You Will Make a Difference

MD&A is looking for a Payroll Manager to oversee the payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with policies and regulations. This includes establishing and implementing key process controls, system setup and integrations, and having proper documentation supporting the processing of company payroll.

Our Payroll Manager reports to the Director of HR, located in Latham, NY, and is part of a dedicated and focused HR/People Operations Team who support MD&A’s #1 priority – OUR PEOPLE.

MD&A’s Payroll Manager will be responsible for: 

  • Manage the of payroll implementation and operations to ensure optimal efficiency, accuracy, and maintain high standards of employee customer service
  • Collaborate with HR team members to oversee all payroll functions, including maintaining employee data, paid time off balances/accruals, 401k employee deferrals and company match, and benefit deductions
  •  Technical expert for payroll issues through a thorough understanding of payroll and tax regulations, and accounting principles
  • Conduct payroll reviews and audits to resolve discrepancies and improve processes
  • Partner with Company’s subsidiary to gain an understanding of systems/processes to help decrease manual processes and improve reporting provided back to MD&A, including 401k annual testing, 401k annual audit, and customer invoicing 
  • Works with HR Team and payroll vendor, Paylocity, to validate and ensure timely quarterly/annual filings, including federal, state and local taxes, social security, Medicare, unemployment, and Workers’ Compensation
  • Develop strong partnerships with business leaders to understand their goals and challenges, and provide strategic HR guidance and support
  • Partner with parent company benefits team on system integrations/file feeds to ensure accurate benefit deductions/earnings
  • Perform weekly, monthly and quarterly payroll audits, including tax setup, 401k, zero hours/leaves of absences, ad-hoc reporting and auditing
  • Perform payroll processing, as needed, of weekly or supplemental off-cycle payrolls
  • Complete payroll related projects and initiatives, including implementation of time entry for field employees and improving time entry/payroll processes
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience managing payroll in a multi-state and multi-entity environment
  •  Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required
  •  Extensive knowledge of payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll and tax regulations
  •  Experience with implementing payroll/time entry system and system integrations
  •  HS/GED or equivalent; BA in Human Resources or related field preferred
  •  Proficient with Excel, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of Paylocity system
  •  Strong problem-solving skills, including building out processes
  •  Ability to work in a cross-functional environment
  •  Highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented
  •  Acument and curiosity to learn the business and support process improvements
  •  Maintains composure to meet deadlines and when faced with pressures from managers or employees
  •  Experience working in a fast-paced, growing environment
